This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk The Netherlands. DUTIES The ExoMars Project manages two missions planned for launch in the 2016 and 2018 Mars planetary transfer windows. This post will be primarily concerned with the second mission presently planned for launch in 2018. The Descent Module Control and Data Management Systems Engineer is responsible for all system aspects related to the Descent Module Control and Data Management System, consisting of contributions to the Russianprovided Descent Module such as the Computer and the Radar Doppler Altimeter. The postholder is responsible for ensuring the coherence of a complex system with many technical, operational and organisational interfaces. The incumbent will report to the ExoMars Entry, Descent and Landing EDL Demonstrator Module Manager and will assist in the implementation of the 2018 mission Descent Module System contributions in accordance with the approved interface budgets and schedule requirements. Within the project guidelines and constraints set, the postholders areas of responsibility will include establishing the functional architecture for each of the ESA avionics contributions to the Descent Module and maintain the requirements set associated to the functional elements and interfaces monitoring Descent Module system budgets and ensuring that the ESA avionics contributions to the Descent Module meet the design constraints and that performance is compatible with agreed interfaces of the Descent Module system monitoring the technical interfaces between the European industrial team and the project team located within RoscosmosLavochkin developing and maintaining, in close cooperation with the ExoMars Payload and Assembly Integration Verification AIV Manager, the verification of the design and flight hardwaresoftware of the ESA avionics contributions to the Descent Module monitoring the technical progress and milestones of the industrial contracts associated with the ESA avionics contributions to the Descent Module, particularly those related to computer and radar, ensuring that technical and programmatic issues are identified and reported to the EDL Demonstrator Module Manager in a timely manner in cooperation with the ExoMars Product Assurance and Safety Office, ensuring that proper product assurance practices are applied during the manufacturing, test and integration phases participating in Tender Evaluation Boards and Project Reviews participating in, and providing support to other areas of the Project where experience can be applied. The Descent Module Control and Data Management Systems Engineer will be assisted by specialist engineers from the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management DTEC as well as from available expertise within the Project. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in aerospace engineering, with specialisation in a technical discipline such as computer technology, radar technology or guidance and navigation control systems. Experience in flight of spacecraft is required and specific experience in the development of scientific spacecraft missions is an asset. A demonstrated ability to apply a multidisciplinary approach in the context of a complex international multiteam environment is an important attribute for this post. Previous involvement in the development and verification of ESA spacecraft would also be considered an asset. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a resultsoriented approach to work in a complex project environment a strong capacity for planning and organising tasks good communications skills a clear aptitude for working in a project team. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Sentinel3 is a Low Earth Orbiting mission to support services relating to the marine and global land environment, with capability to serve further atmospheric and cryosphericbased application areas. The objectives of the Sentinel3 mission encompass the commitment to consistent, longterm collection of remotely sensed marine and land data, of uniform quality, for operational ocean state analysis, forecasting and service provision, in the context of the Copernicus Services as set up by the European Commission. Tasks and Responsibilities The Data Processing System engineer Mission Performance, Monitoring and Supporting Applications shall support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs Marine Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS maintenance in particular anomaly correction and software release process and necessary evolutions, including the necessary coordination of the data processing systems engineering for the related functions and interfaces with the rest of the Sentinel3 ground segment. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, from preparing and providing the support of the day to day operation and maintenance currently in the preparation phase, the analysis, and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, design of upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The Key Person will be the focal point when it comes to integrating the individual SW Facilities into a data processing system, covering all aspects of system integration and testing, including endtoend testing of the production system. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. This may also entail the participation in the specification and development of specific monitoring tools for S3. In support to operations, the Key Person may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers, especially for the S3 commissioning and initial operations phases. Qualifications Requirements The Key Person should have the following background A University degree or equivalent plus minimum 2 years of experience At least 3 years work experience in maintaining and engineering of evolutions of large scale software systems missioninstrument data processing related. Experience in software development lifecycles Software debugging and profiling tools e.g. GDB, DBX, IBM Purify, Valgrind Source code control systems, preferably Subversion and CVS Competence in SW testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation.
