Cord-cutting in the US continues to accelerate, with the number of cord-cutting households jumping another 19.2% this year. According to eMarketer, the number of households without a traditional pay TV subscription is quickly approaching those that have one.

Parks Associates has announced research showing that 39% of US broadband households own a streaming media player, a mere 1% increase over 2018, indicating ownership has flattened, although purchase intentions are higher for 2019 compared to previous years.

27% of US broadband households engage in some form of piracy or account sharing

Parks Associates research forecasts that in 2019, U.S. OTT and pay-TV companies will see $9.1 billion in lost revenue due to piracy and account sharing. This number is expected to grow to $12.5 billion in 2024, a growth rate of 38%.

(Telecompaper) Only one in five EU households subscribe to broadband of at least 100 Mbps, well short of the EU's goal of 50 percent with 'ultrafast' broadband by 2020. The figures are part of the latest Digital Economy and Society Index published by the European Commission and show the EU needs to do more to accelerate its digital transformation, the Commission said.

Share of UK broadband households planning to cancel pay-TV has doubled

Research from Parks Associates finds that the percentage of UK broadband households stating that they are likely to cancel their pay-TV service has increased to 24% in late 2018 from 12% in late 2015. The intent to cancel is higher among households that watch online video services.
