Copernicus Ground Segment Engineer

Job description The Engineer will work in the Ground Segment System Engineering team GSSE, supporting the requirement management, design, development and implementation of the ground segments of the Copernicus missions, having a particular emphasis on the continuity of operations and the control of changes and evolutions of the systems. The initial focus of the activities of the Ground Segment System Engineer will be the development of capabilities to reach full engineering professionalism in the area of system engineering of operational ground segments. The Engineer duties will include a range of tasks, including among others Participate in the system engineering processes for managing requirements through the lifecycle of ground segments, using formal methods and tools e.g. DOORS for maintenance, traceability, verification and validation of requirements Support the technical analysis of the architecture and specifications of major upgrades of ground segments, in order to ensure coherence and compatibility with other ongoing developments and identify impacts on baseline technical documentation Contribute to maintaining the reference architecture of the overall EUMETSAT ground segment through the assessment of relevant technologies and design options, based on a Model Based Engineering approach Support the definition of the Integration Verification Validation IVV approach and the related tests for evolutions of existing systems and installation of new systems Support the maintenance of a complete and consistent set of system level documentation and drawings Preparing and providing support to the day to day operation and maintenance of the Copernicus S3 ground segment, including the handling of the anomalies raised during the operation of the system and control of changes. Requirements The Engineer shall have the following A university degree or equivalent in system engineering or other relevant discipline A minimum of 3 years experience in the following fields System Engineering for the development, or major upgrades, of Ground Segments for Earth Observation missions, or their main components Software development lifecycles, system testing for Earth Observation systems and knowledge of the Ground System Engineering processes and standards i.e. ECSS. Experience in the support to the operations and maintenance of Ground Segments, or main components of them Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS Background in data processing or control systems engineering, remote sensing technology or digital signalimagery data processing Initial experience in testing, integrating, verifying andor validating data processing ground systems or equivalent, ideally in a highavailability 247 operational context Fluency in English.

Support the SEP System Engineer on all related activities as requested Support the OPS regular coordination processes, including CRBs and ARBs, as requested. In the role of support to the development of new GEO and LEO programmes, the tasks of the Key person shall include Participate to the definition of the system architecture and interfaces between the multimission elements and the programme specific elements of the ground system In coordination with the system and interface engineers of the future ground segment, ensure that the definition and documentation of new interfaces are compatible with the methodology used in Operations this include the use of common templates for Interface Control Document and the use of the same tool for maintaining the interfaces data dictionary Provide support to the definition of the IV V approach for the future ground systems Promote the implementation of the TSS working practices regarding system maintainability and evolutions. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have at least three years experience in the following areas Development and maintenance of complex operational ground systems, preferably for remote sensing spacecraft with large reuse of existing generic infrastructure and functional elements System and Interfaces Engineering I AIT experience for the development of major upgrades I new ground systems in a 247 operational environment Interfaces requirements definition, engineering and test, including the generation and maintenance of Interface Control Documents, with support of tools In addition, for the accomplishment of the listed tasks, proven knowledge and experience in the following of at least two ofthe following areas Satellite monitoring and control systems Data processing Dissemination Archive systems Ground Stations It would be a distinct advantage for the key person to have knowledge andor experience with some of the following Full development cycle of large systems, from the definition of requirements to system design and testing System requirements management and functionalarchitectural modelling, with support of tools e.g. DOORS System architectural design experience in the use of modelling and design tools in support of it will be considered an advantage e.g. Enterprise Architect Configuration Control processes and tools. Tasks and responsibilities The Data Processing Engineer shall support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs Marine Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS maintenance in particular anomaly correction and software release processes in the area of data processing systems from instrument source packet level through to level2. The consultant shall also support the coordination of the evolutions of these systems. The consultants duties will include a range of tasks, from preparing and providing the support of the day to day operations and maintenance currently in the launch preparation phase, the analysis and testing of the facilities including the handling of anomalies, and the design of upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The consultant shall support the team acting as the focal point for integrating the individual software components into the related data processing systems, covering all aspects of system integration and testing, including support to the endtoend testing of the complete production system. The consultants duties will also cover the contribution to the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. This may also entail the participation in the specification and development of monitoring tools for Sentinel3. In support to operations, the consultant may also be required to provide oncall support as part of a team of maintenance engineers.
