Position Reference 012 You will have the opportunity to support ESA in the definition, development and prototyping of algorithms and software tools for the exploitation of Synthetic Aperture Radar SAR, MultiSpectral MS Optical and Radar Altimeter RA data, principally from ESA missions. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Review and analysis of existing software tools available for the exploitation of SAR, optical and RA data from ESA, Sentinels and 3rd Party satellite missions. Support the development of innovative EO products for SAR, optical, RA and Earth Explorer related science and applications, by benchmarking, testing and prototyping algorithms elaborated either in ESA external application development projects or following ESA internal investigation activities. Support the development, benchmarking and comparison of multitemporal Sentinel2 algorithms i.e. processing of Sentinel 2 time series for land cover, agriculture, forestry and coastal zone applications. Prototyping, testing and documentation of new algorithms and EO data analysis tools for the exploitation of SAR, optical and RA data, starting from preliminary highlevel specifications provided by the Agency or external research teams, and evaluation of the generated output products Development and evaluation of preliminary algorithmic and processing chain concepts to verify feasibility, establish performance requirements, and prepare formal specifications for operational SW to be implemented externally by third parties or in preparation for ESA Exploitation projects. Support internal scientific feasibility activities involving data analysis in preparation for potential future ESA Exploitation projects IDL, PCI, Matlab, ERDAS will be used for algorithm definition and evaluation prior to implementation in C, C or JAVA under UNIXLINUXMS Windows Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory You have a degree in a relevant technical field such as Physics, Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science. Main responsibilities The successful candidate will support to any or all of the following activities Contribute to the establishing of the programmatic and technical software PA requirements within the framework of the ESA Software policy. Specific Tasks Good product assurance requires good configuration control and the customer has several people involved in both areas. The customer doesnt have much mission overlap in configuration control while in QA there is a strong input from TEC forming a sort of cross mission QA support with a small group. The small QA group is usually supported by QA functions provided in the missions usually from the configuration control area. A PAQA support also requires certain tools such as SONAR and possibly specific metrics to be run on continuous build system. There should also be PA Risk Management and Document Management plans at the SCIO level which is referred to in the individual SIPs of the missions. In close liaison with SCIOQ and in collaboration with the projectmission managers the PAQA support includes the following tasks Establish the PA requirements and PA plan relevant to the project in compliance with the ESA SW Engineering and Product Assurance standards. Guide and monitor the implementation of PA requirements by the project in order to ensure their proper implementation. Monitor and control the performanceeffectiveness of the processes used during the development of the software. Maintain PAQA processes and procedures relevant to the project including PA documentation. Participate in inspections and reviews scrums, design, code, documentation of the project and directing the necessary preventive or corrective actions. Define and ensure the correct application of problem reporting procedures. Define, implement and perform a metrication program to manage the development and to assess the quality of the development processes and the products. Implement and perform process assessment and improvement. Perform project audits and assessments specifically for quality and configuration practices. Provide support to SCIOQ in PAQA aspects, such as Participate in project reviews when requested Provide feedback on the projects by monthly report Develop and maintain PA procedures and practices applicable to SCIO Provide feedback and support to SCIOQ in configuration management aspects Spot check configuration management practices on all missions, ensuring the correct application of the configuration management procedures Provide support to the development and maintenance of configuration control procedures and practices applicable to SCIO Feedback on risk management project status, performed by crossreference to the SCIO risk policy, Maintain methods and tools relevant to PAQA activities e.g. Sonar tool, verifying and reporting their correct use by the project.
