This includes the following tasks System administration activities for all the computer systems used for scientific research activities. These comprise of several servers running mainly the Ubuntu and Oracle Linux operating system, virtual computing environments, central storage and backup facilities and a GRID system, as well as several user workstations. Specific tasks covering installation, upgrading and regular patching of these systems Installation and support of commercial and public domain software web services, database services, directory services, backup services, print services, license services User support and assistance Architectural design and improvement of the existing environment Provide proper documentation on supporting the infrastructure Support to the maintenance of the scientific publication lists for SREs missions. This will include developing tools to extract publication information from the internet and combine this information to produce an ESA specific reporting tool. Specific Qualification Requirements The service to be provided requires that the personnel should possess a university degree in computing or software engineering, or equivalent, and possess relevant professional experience of at least 5 years. In particular, possess the following experience, knowledge and proficiency in Thorough knowledge and in depth experience of Ubuntu, Oracle Linux, OVM software, Solaris, RedHat and Mac OS Thorough knowledge and in depth experience of EMC backup solutions Thorough knowledge and in depth experience of webserver and webserver related software Experience and knowledge on Unixbased application software Experience and knowledge on database software mysql, Oracle database Experience and knowledge on supporting and managing Network attached Storage devices Experience and knowledge on supporting and managing a GRID system Experience and knowledge of network devices switches and load balancers Experience on how to manage efficiently serverclient scenarios and on how to constantly improve them Experience on knowledge of modern programming and scripting languages java, perl, python. Experience in interacting with the science community would be an advantage. The service personnel must be willing to operate in a team environment and to travel, should possess good communications skills and be able to document their work. The personnel is expected to be comfortable in an international working environment and to be fluent in English a high level of written and spoken English is essential. The personnel is expected to be enthusiastic, highly motivated, taking an active approach and has the goal to provide excellent support to the scientists and their community.
