This role is routed in the mission of EUMETSAT and will provide the opportunity to work with leading IT, Space and Earth Observation organisations and domain experts to make a positive impact on society! The Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division is tasked with providing the scientific expertise required to develop, implement, validate, maintain and evolve the operational observational products for all EUMETSAT satellites and agreed third party missions, such as the Copernicus CO2 Monitoring, as well as establishing the user requirements for future EUMETSAT missions. Within the Atmospheric Chemistry ACh Competence Area of the Remote Sensing and Products Division RSP, the Remote Sensing Scientist CO2M spectrometer calibration will be responsible for, and contribute to, the CO2 and NO2 visible to shortwave infrared grating spectrometer instrument calibration and product processing onboard the Copernicus CO2 Monitoring CO2M mission, with additional responsibility for the scientific development, maintenance, verification, validation and quality monitoring of instrument products. CO2M is the space component of the European integrated observation and inversion modelling system dedicated to the monitoring of anthropogenic CO2 emissions. What youll be doing Acquire and maintain an in depth understanding of the CO2 and NO2 visible to shortwave infrared grating spectrometer instrument design, onboard of CO2M Support the prototyping and operational implementation of algorithms for instrument calibration and product processing Plan, develop and perform product calibration and validation activities, with respect to the CO2 and NO2 spectrometer instrument Provide product quality analysis and longterm monitoring of CO2 and NO2 spectrometer products Support CO2M mission preparation for commissioning and operations with respect to processor integrations, system testing, validation and verification Support industrial activities for operational processor development, and processor specification, as well as CO2 and NO2 spectrometer instrument groundcalibration campaigns Play an active role in relevant preparations for mission operations and scientific interactions with the CO2 Monitoring and Verification Support capacity user community. Skills and Experience Indepth scientific knowledge of spaceborne spectrometer calibration, and product processing Familiarity with high spectral resolution grating spectrometer instrument design and calibration, for instruments operating in the visible to the shortwave infrared region, is a distinct advantage Proven experience of processing largevolumes of data from relevant space borne instruments Demonstrable experience with scientific development projects and working with user communities and researchers Experience of working in a UNIX environment and with scientificallyoriented coding languages like CC, Python andor MATLAB Familiarity with Java is an advantage Strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation, coupled with good interpersonal skills and a proven ability to apply these to the interactions within a team and between teams.
