JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks Provision of consultancy services to support the operations, the engineering and the science to be undertaken as part of the Copernicus Sentinel3 routine operations. The operational, technical and scientific activities will be conducted under the responsibility of the EUMETSAT Copernicus Sentinel 3 Operations Team within the EUMETSAT Operations and User Support Department with the support of the EUMETSAT Technical and Scientific Support Department. We seek a Communications and Network Systems Engineer to support the development, deployment and adaptation of critical networking solutions used for satellite operations, as well as acquisition, processing, archiving and dissemination of payload data and generated products. The Challenge We are looking for a Systems Engineer to be located at our customers site in Darmstadt, Germany. The Systems Engineer will support EUMETSATs communications team, contributing to the specification, design, installation, integration, test, procurement, operation and troubleshooting of network infrastructure, services and solutions. Individual tasks include Support the analysis and specification of a concept and roadmap for consolidating WAN edge networks and interfaces. This includes provision of the design and evolution path towards the targeted consolidated system. TASKS In providing support to developing and deploying network infrastructure, services and solutions for current and emerging operational networks, the key person shall be required to carry out the following tasks Infrastructure, services and solutions specification Specification of networking customer, user, or business needs. PROFILE Technical skills Carrying out the above tasks entails assuming responsibility, at the technical and coordination level, of the specification, planning, preparation, presentation, execution and reporting on those activities. Critical activities will typically be executed by small teams, where depending on hisher expertise and background, the key person shall be able to assume both the leading key engineer as well as the support role. In carrying out the above tasks, the Contractor shall assume the following roles and responsibilities Liaison and prime Point of Contact PoC to network customers, responsible for Understanding and ownership of the customeruserbusiness needs and constraints Ownership of network performance and service quality of the solutions delivered to the customer. In the performance of these tasks, the key person shall apply the EUMETSAT configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. This may comprise writing and reviewing requirement and design specifications, change proposals, preparing documents supporting procurements, reviewing data packages belonging to technical inspections and reviews, writing and reviewing the asbuilt communication and network solution specification, writingreviewing test reports and overall status reports. PROFILE Hard skills, experience knowledge In addition to having a university degree or equivalent, the key person shall have at least 5 years of proven knowledge and handson experience in several of the following mandatory skills areas Understanding the business needs imposed by satellite ground systems environments or similar on networking and experience of translating these into needs on network infrastructure, functions and systems. Ability to analyse complex systems and to present them in a comprehensible way, with the specific ability to understand and communicate relevant details whilst keeping the focus on the overall system aspects. Experience of network engineering in such environments throughout its lifecycle, from identification of needs to deployment and operations.
