IT Infrastructure Support Technician

Position Reference 079 You will have the opportunity to support the POLARIS activities. POLARIS is a platform and set of services mainly designed to host, run and operate PRISMA and ECLIPSE applications, which are ESA European Space Agencys most widely used tools for information management in the project development phase. These applications are used by ESA Space Projects across the ESA Directorates, Industry, the Scientific Community and the Delegate Bodies. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Infrastructure Resource, Availability and Performance monitoring Execution of the daily morning checks, Troubleshooting incidents and problems management investigation, diagnosis, resolution, recovery Release Management process POLARIS Infrastructure Log management Execution of infrastructure validation plans Automatic procedures including but not limited to Start up and shut down procedures. User profile configuration and management. Scripts creation. File system control. Operating system configuration. Security related tasks including Vulnerability assessments, Authentication Security, Antivirus, Infrastructure Security, Data Integrity and confidentiality, Security audits, Penetration tests. Benchmark, diagnosing and improvement of availability of POLARIS Applications, providing meaningful and accurate metrics End User Management tasks of the POLARIS Applications as described in each specific Operations Manuals Cooperation with the Functional Support to define and execute Operational and functional Verification and Validation test plans including non Regression Application Management e.g. start stop, housekeeping, routine checks and alerts, troubleshooting according to Operation manuals Data management e.g. maintenance of data structures, manual data extraction, application data restorereplication, support to batch data upload, job scheduling, data move across applications according to Operation Manuals Roll out and installation of release and upgrades POLARIS Applications Log management Ondemand environment alignment e.g. full or partial data alignment, full alignment with data and SW, On demand provision of environments related to Applications included in the POLARIS Scope. Adhoc additional tasks as required by the Service Manager in support of the POLARIS infrastructure activities. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory You hold a technical qualification or documented operational experience in the field of IT Systems, Network Engineering andor data center operation. You have at least 4 years of experience in the management, operation and maintenance of IT systems, in particular in IT Infrastructure support. You are very familiar with many or all of the following technologies Apache Web Servers JBoss EAP Open LDAP Oracle DB Mongo DB Red Hat Enterprise Server Microsoft Windows Server You are fluent in the English. You have a strong customer oriented approach and able to communicate coherently and professionally. You have experience in Documentation Management and keeping Documents under Configuration Control. First Line IT Support Technician

Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Opening tickets ensuring full understanding of the incidents data is initially collected, in such a manner as to be responsive, courteous, effective and efficient when handling user incidents e.g. no user contact shall be lost once acknowledged Contributing to tracking, flagging, monitoring, following up and closing Tickets until their closure is confirmed by the users Recording changes and tracking all interactions with user and exchange of information relevant to the incident, including escalation activity Resolving tickets at the first point of contact wherever possible Managing, supervising, coordinating, escalating all other POLARIS layers or relevant third parties until the incident is closed and confirmed by the users, according to POLARIS and third parties Service Level Agreements Supporting the user on questions related to recurrent and standardised How To or frequently asked questions, by means of remote assistance tool when needed, calling back Users for any clarification and providing them with updates on their tickets status Supporting incident trend analysis and root cause identification Proactive incident Management Rejecting incidents as out of POLARIS scope Misrouting management, e.g. Desktops, Printers, etc.., forwarding to proper 3rd party First Line the incidents raised by the user and giving a clear reason for rejection Contributing to verify accuracy of the information collected from third party suppliers before inserting it in the POLARIS Service Management System Contributing to managing complaints and dissatisfactions according to the corresponding procedure. Adhoc additional task as required by the Service Manager in support of the POLARIS activities. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Apply all the required processes, services, activities and tasks to ensure users can effectively use existing POLARIS Applications in support to their business needs. Enable applications improvement by analysing and documenting system anomalies which Prevent correct andor effective use of the existing applications. Provide User Support for basic and complex How To type of questions. Execute functional operations, according to an agreed set of possible, documented procedures, that do not require changes to application software and documents. Collect and document Frequently Asked Questions, making available relevant documentation to users, e.g. User Manuals, FAQ. Contribute in the identification, definition and delivery of workaround. Collect, engineer and manage Functional user requirements. Define and execute functional Verification and Validation test plans including nonregression for Application Infrastructure maintenance and upgrade. Support ESA stakeholders during the Validation process. Execute troubleshooting and data management, providing the solution to amend data anomalies resulted from system malfunction andor user error, upon necessary authorisation, when the user cannot recover the situation autonomously because of system limits. Record data changeupload statements scripts and procedures in the Service Management System. Produce and maintain or contribute to the production and maintenance of the POLARIS deliverables Contribution in the preparatory activities and then execute the DisasterRecovery Plan, including a simulation per Year. Coordinate, monitor, and escalate incidents requiring the attention of ESA third parties. Adhoc additional tasks as required by the Service Manager in support of the POLARIS activities.
