Earth Observation Application Support Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities In this role you will be working in ESAs Climate Office and will be leading the management of activities related to climate datainformation quality assurance in relation to climate data products, standards, algorithm validation and long term preservation. You will be responsible for The definition of the Climate Change Initiative CCI data access needs, both FCDRs and ECVs, in terms of Services Coordinated Interface, coreinfrastructure, analysis and reporting, and quality control The analysis, definition, initiation and management of industrial activities, associated to the distribution of Earth Observation data from the GMECV programme and the Climate Scientific User community Acquire, archive, document and make available in CMIP5 CCI products Definition and development of the CCI Data Portal Definition and development of the CCI Tool Box Support the development of climate services, especially international and intergovernmental public sector markets, including climate data visualisation. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree or equivalent in physics, engineering or an Earth sciences discipline Extensive experience in product definition, calibration, validation, algorithm development, quality assessment and exploitation of Earth Observation data, for ESA missions in particular Established profile of dialoguing the with Earth Observation research communities in disciplines relevant for climate Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Fluency in English is mandatory, knowledge of another European language is an advantage. JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks Supporting routine operations involving the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems, including Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 products and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products Investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products Preparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to data processing operations Providing Standby callout support Supporting the further development of the MSG and EPS data processing systems, including the specification and validation of system updates Supporting the operations preparations for future MSG and EPS spacecrafts Supporting the preparations for Meteosat Third Generation Attendance at technical meetings Participation in formal reviews. Qualifications Aerospace Engineer, Mathematician,Physicist Required knowledge . Minimum of 3 years experience in the realtime acquisition, Level 0 processing and Level 1 processing of data andor Level 2 processing of data from imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft Significant experience of validating complex remote sensing data processing systems Experience with UNIXLinux operating systems. Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the key person to have experience with or knowledge of some of the following Imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft Programming Languages e.g. C, C and Fortran Scripting Languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Spacecraft andor ground segment operations Knowledge andor experience of geophysical remote sensing data processing, e.g. Image Navigation and Registration INR, radiometric correction, calibration algorithms and retrieval of geophysical parameters WHAT DO WE OFFER?
