IT Support Engineer for Science Operations SCJ 2765

Summary An opportunity for an experienced support engineer to work for us onsite at ESAC. Objective To provide computer support to all science operations centres and science ground segments located at ESAC. Responsibilities Duties Specific service tasks include but are not limited to UNIX LINUX and SOLARIS, Macintosh and PC System management Installation, configuration, integration and setting up of new machines with appropriate operating systems and layered software Administration and operation management of computer systems Installation and configuration of new disks and other devices and new users accounts. User support mainly scientists and engineers Handle the mail aliases and mail distribution list Handlingcheckingmodifying all backups Definition, implementation and maintenance of computer operators procedures Issues of documentation and technical reports GRID related activities Installation, configuration, integration, operations, maintenance and upgrade of Grid Engine and EGI UMD GRID middleware infrastructure Support users to adapt their computing tasks to the GRID infrastructure Cloud related activities Installation, configuration, integration, operations, maintenance and upgrade of Eucalyptus Cloud middleware Knowledge of other Cloud middleware is an asset Contact with hardware and software suppliers Definition of hardwaresoftware needs and quotation requests for new purchases and maintenance contracts Locking hardware incidents calls and following the call history. Assisting technician when on site Others Installation and maintenance of storage SANNAS infrastructure Installation and maintenance of Virtual Machines Installation and maintenance of compute clusters Interface with external ESA corporate informatics infrastructure service providers Design of network setup requirements and follow up of implementation Request of new network connections Qualifications Experience MSc or equivalent in a relevant discipline Specific knowledge is required in the following areas GRID technology Grid Engine, EGI UMD Cloud computing Storage SANNAS technologies Solaris System management Linux RedHat system management Virtualization technologies Backup technologies PC Windows XP and Macintosh system management Scientific user computer support Network design and requirements Essential Skills Be well organized and show a good sense of initiative Excellent level of English both written and spoken Further Details All roles within Telespazio VEGA have a defined closing date, however if a successful candidate is found before the advert expires the role will be closed early. Multimedia and Graphic Support Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of the Communications, Outreach Education Office at ESAESTEC, you will have the following responsibilities Provide multimedia and graphical support Translate various input from various sources engineering, scientific, public relations, etc. into coherent graphical visualisations Produce storyboards in the form of raw animations or stills Produce highquality still and animation renders from scratch, combining 2D and 3D techniques as required Prepare resulting products in forms suitable for a variety of purposes, including web, print, media, etc. Layout and graphical design for printed media, web sites, scientific conferences, presentations, and documentation Animations, videos, podcasts, etc. for TV broadcasters, web sites, social media, presentations, and DVD productions Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Several years of experience in graphical design or multimediavideo production Experience with several of the following software packages o 2D3D rendering Autodesk Maya 2014, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign as of CS5 o Postcompositing software Adobe After Effects PC, Apple Shake Mac o Effects FX software Apple Motion Mac or PC equivalent. o Video editing Apple Final Cut Pro Mac or Adobe Premiere PC or PC platform equivalent o Scientific image processing FITS Liberator plugin for Photoshop o File compression Apple Compressor Mac or PC platform equivalent Experience with generating textures for 3D renders, particularly for planetary surfaces and spacecraft hardware advantageous Knowledge of astronomical image processing considered an advantage Fluency in English mandatory knowledge of another European language advantageous. Administrative Support to the Senior Scientific Advisor Key Tasks and Responsibilities In this role you will be working in the Directorate of Science at ESAESTEC and have the following responsibilities Daytoday support to Unit personnel regarding business travel arrangements, leave management, coordination of training Dealing with incoming telephone calls and information requests Analysing incoming correspondence and documentation and managing distribution of outgoing correspondence and documentation Provision of various logistic support to the Unit Ordering of office supplies and maintenance of stationery Administration and handling of shipment of goods and express mail Tasks related to documentation management Maintaining documents libraries for the Unit, including maintenance of change log, distribution lists, issue information notes to concerned users Maintaining and following up actions lists for the Unit and taking minutes of meetings as required Participation in the organisation of events e.g. workshops, conferences as required.
