Summary Great opportunity for an experienced systems engineer to join the Telespazio UK team, working onsite at ESTEC, supporting current and future smallsat EO missions in all phases. Objective The post will be within the Mission and System Studies Section part of the wider Future Missions and Instruments Division is responsible for the endtoend preparation of EO missions through the appropriate engineering activities, working in close cooperation with other EOP teams. In particular, the contractor will provide system engineering support to the implementation of missions based on Cubesats and other similar small platforms. Responsibilities Duties The successful individual can expect to be involved in Supporting projects related to mission implementation phase BCDE1 for future sats or for commercialapplicationoriented EO missions under the ESA InCubed programme Supporting the system level technology developments in projects under the InCubed programme, for the preparation of future related Calls and for risk retirement activities for small missions, e.g. Scouts, under maturation Supporting the definition and monitoring of small missions under preparation through e.g. participation to reviews, assessment of industrial results, evaluation of proposals in reply to Calls, including functional analysis and design, overall system concept, system level budgets, system performance analyses. Providing systemengineering support as EO Mission System Engineer in the definition and monitoring of activities for the preparation of future ESA EO missions, in particular Earth Explorers missions, Opportunity missions, Scout missions, and Earth Watch missions. Supporting work in the area of modelling of system or subsystem aspects and of endtoend performance simulators and simulations. Qualifications Experience University Masters degree, or equivalent, in Engineering or related discipline. Experience in space projects and associated technology developments. Essential Skills Good knowledge of CubeSats standard evolution and trend. Experience in the implementation of small satellites, ideally in the EO domain, including handson experience in manufacturingprocurement and environmentalacceptance tests. Experience in preparation Phases 0 and A of missions for Earth science andor commercialapplicationoriented EO missions. Knowledge of sensing techniques used in EO missions Knowledge of Matlab and STK or similar tools Technical writing, with ability to synthesize multiple inputs coherently. Position Reference 909 You will have the opportunity to participate in the software engineering service that supports the development and maintenance of the Science Archives at the ESDC ESAC Science Data Centre. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Design, develop, deploy, operate and maintain any of the ESDC Science Archives and Virtual Observatory VO subsystems Support the analysis of user requirements and work on the design and modelling of archive databases and archive data models. Archive Data products repositories and Databases including DB administrative tasks. Archive Data ingestion and metadata extraction systems. Archive application servers and middle tier services. Archive Web applications. Archive Data distribution systems. Archive interoperability systems, or programmatic access, supported by VO standards. Archive administration services monitoring, statistics, reporting, user management.... Archive data products online visualization images, spectra and analysis services. VO tools and services. Integration in and across all the ESDC archives of common infrastructure, tools and science data visualization, enabling the maximum exploitation of the data. Software configuration control activities associated with archive development. Unit and system tests associated with archive development. Contribute to prepare and maintain necessary documentation following engineering standards as ECSS. Participation to working groups, workshops, conferences and meetings where science archives and virtual observatory standards and practices are discussed. Provide technical support to archives and VO services usage. Interactions with general international community of astronomersusers via workshops and the helpdesk. Interactions with ESA partners such as Canadian and NASA teams, JAXA,. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Masters Degree in a relevant discipline, with at least 4 years of relevant working experience.
