Matlab, Simulink, etc.. 1Activity description Satellite system engineering activity related to flight dynamics and mission analyses aimed to specify the requirements for satellite design and operations during lifetime. The analyses can be related to LEO, MEO or GEO missions, and they include the launch separation from launcher, the inorbit injection, the orbit raising, if applicable, and the operational orbit control during the lifetime. It is included also the analysis and definition of design requirements for mission projects that envisage the possibility of using lowthrust and or hybrid propulsion systems. Support to define for Earth Observation mission, the procedure to select and design the orbital control strategy that permits to meet the missions requirements, and to issue a document to be used as technical reference. It is requested the attitude to learn new tools for mission analysis and optimization through personal theoretical study and on the job training, in case of specific software tool requested by the customers. It is requested the attitude to follow the entire design chain, from acquisition and understanding of requirements, provided by customer, to accomplishment of the design and its final verification before launch. 2Activity description Satellite engineering activities related to orbital dynamics, mission analysis and control, including projects that envisage the possibility of using lowthrust and or hybrid propulsion systems. Definition, realization and management of the mission of a satellite, being able to follow the entire life cycle from the acquisition of the requirements coming from the customer up to the realization of the project, the launch and the support in orbit during the operational life.

Radar Instrument Engineer

The ideal candidate will work within the frame of programmes and studies undertaken by the Radar Payloads Unit, to contribute to the engineering activity of performance analysis and definition of models. Task description Tradeoff analyses concerning radar instruments the candidate shall perform the tradeoff analyses related to the design of radar Instruments, to the definition of radar instrument architectures and of their main sub systems antenna, antenna frontend, RF section, digital section. In particular, the candidate shall focus hisher activity on the definition of the digital section of synthetic aperture radars SAR and of the related onboard processing e.g. digital waveform generation and management, echo digital filtering, digital beamforming, data decimation, data compression and formatting. Definition of radar payloads requirements in the design phases of programmes related to radar payloads, the candidate shall perform analyses and assessments to support the Instrument Architect at the aim of establishing requirements at levels of instrument, and shall contribute to issue requirement documents for radar instrument, assemblies, equipment and units. Definition and maintenance of radar payloads budgets the candidate shall contribute to prepare and maintain budgets related to radar payload. Definition and development of software tools e.g. Matlab tools, Excel worksheets, etc. for supporting simulations and analyses required for the phases of design and verification of radar payloads hardware. Evaluation of test results and participation to test campaigns the candidate shall contribute to evaluate radar payload performance by taking part to test campaigns and evaluating test results at level of instrument, assembly, equipment and unit. Participation to meetings with the SAR Instrument design team. Participation to meetingsreviews with internal and external subcontractors. Participation to meetingsreviews with both internal and external customers. Preparation of documents and presentations. Personal requirements Master degree or PhD in either Remote Sensing Engineering, or Telecommunication Engineering, or Electronics Engineering. Background in the field of digital electronics design, simulations and analysis skills and experience in the fields of Antenna and RF design are considered as distinctive elements. Knowledge of Matlab, MS Office products. Knowledge of the English language at least at intermediate level for both written and verbal communication. Attitude to teamwork.

Analysis and assessment of impacts due to satellite reentry on the Earth at the end of operational lifetime. Academic professional preparation Masters Degree in Pure and Applied Mathematics or Masters degree in Physics and II level Master in Space Science and Technology. Knowledge of software for numerical computation and dynamic simulation eg. Matlab, Simulink, etc.. Knowledge of programming languages eg. C, Python, Java, etc... Activity description Satellite system engineering activity aimed to evaluate the effects of space environment to specify the requirements for design of satellite, and to specify requirement for satellite appendages e.g. solar array, antennas, etc.. The considered space environment is both the natural environment radiation, micrometeorids, orbital debris and the environment selfgenerated by satellite itself as the plume impingement due to chemical and electrical propulsion. In this context is part of the activity the development and finalization of in house software tool for evaluation of plume impingement effects both for chemical and electrical propulsion, and their validation through comparison of results with benchmark. Additional system engineering activity is the evaluation of the impacts generated by uncontrolled reentry in the Earth atmosphere of satellite at the end of its operational lifetime, with implementation of best practices for use of available simulation tools. This activity is finalized to obtain a mitigation of debris in orbit, through the driving of satellite design tradeoff to a debris mitigation policy. It is requested the attitude to learn new tools for Reentry analyses through personal theoretical study and on the job training, in case of specific requirements from customers It is requested the attitude to follow the entire design chain, from acquisition and understanding of requirements, provided by customer, to accomplishment of the design and its final verification before launch.

Accomplishment of mechanical and thermal analyses through the finite element methods, the mechanical analyses include both static and dynamic cases while for thermal analyses are envisaged both steady state and transient cases. Support to apply the defined procedure for carrying out thermoelastic analyses to current programs as ROSEL and CIMR, and to verify the results vs bench marks, in order to improve the reliability of this procedure and to issue a document to be used as technical reference. Management and reduction of complex finite element models, in order to be used in satellite dynamic models. To establish and maintain CAD mathematical models of satellite, to perform analysis aimed to define satellite design requirements to meet geometrical and mass properties requirements issued by launchers to compute and update the satellite mass properties, according to development of design, to feed the satellite data bank, the satellite structural FEM and satellite mass budget to define geometrical compatibility of satellite appendages solar array and antennas reflector and their cinematic of deployment to support the design tradeoff for mass balancing of satellite and instrument. Accomplishment of mechanical through the finite element methods, the mechanical analyses include both static and dynamic cases. Management of telemetry data from operational satellites, to provide diagnostic support in case of anomaly event and to accomplish a Return of Experience for satellite design improvement. Determine the effect of environmental disturbances and orbit control maneuvers on stability of appendages, in particular on the stability of reflectors of antennas, to provide input for RF performances analyses, and to demonstrate the compatibility of attitude control subsystem with the deployment of appendices and with the instruments nominal and calibration modes. It is requested the attitude to learn new tools for finite element analyses, both in mechanical and thermal design fields, through personal theoretical study and on the job training, in case of specific requirements from customers.
