We are looking for a Optical Engineer E3 to join our Modis Aerospace team, working onsite at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands. Modis Aerospace is a specialized Engineering consultancy with more than 30 years experience providing aerospace Engineers to our key partners in The Netherlands. Modis is a longstanding business partner of the European Space Agency ESA, with more than 120 employees recruited from across Europe currently supporting ESAs activities. Specific tasks to be performed Followup of the Instrument Optical Design Aspects and support the development of the Optical Modules by providing expert technical support to ESA projects and studies for the development of optical space instrumentation throughout all project phases Definition and review of all optical system engineering aspects, including requirements, both at system and subsystem level, internal and external interfaces, and engineering budgets Participating in project reviews and support the evaluation of procurement proposals Contribute to designoptical related performances improvement, in particular by identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution Develop mathematical modelling and simulations of optical instruments Support the definition and followup of Instrument onground calibration activities and of inorbit commissioning. General tasks to be performed Translation of optical payload performance requirements into optical systems specifications. Conceptual design of optical systems, as telescopes, spectrometers. Optical design analysis and verification including optical tolerances analyses. Assessment of optomechanical layouts. Definition of plans for experimental validation and calibration of optical systems. Evaluation and analysis of test results. Verification of high precision optical components technology developments. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required PhD or Master in Physics or Optical Engineering. At least 4 years of project andor industrial experience in the design, engineering and testing of various types of optical instrumentation. Good working knowledge of ZEMAX andor CODE V and preferably also ASAP. Handson experience in optical manufacturing techniques, alignment and tolerancing. About ESAESTEC The European Space Agency ESA has sites in several European countries. The European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC is the largest site and the technical heart of ESA. This nursery of European space activities is located in Noordwijk, Netherlands. Experience in analysis and design of modern digital communication systems, coding and synchronization issues. Familiarity with modern communication system and subsystem simulation techniques, as a minimum Matlab and CC program languages. Knowledge of modern prototyping and testing methodologies for digital communication subsystems is also preferred. Fluent in the English language spoken and written.
