We are currently looking for an Operational Support Engineer to work in the beautiful area of Frascati Italy. Tasks and Activities Description RHEA is looking for an Operational Support Engineer for the Data Access Services provided to ESA European Space Agency in the context of Earth Observation EO Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS and in particular the data access facilities of multiple EO missions including Earth Explorers e.g. SMOS, Cryosat, Heritage Missions e.g. ERS12, ENVISAT and ThirdParty Missions e.g. KOMPSAT2, WorldView, RapidEye, SPOT. In the framework of the provided service, System Engineering profiles are required for supporting the Agency in management and monitoring of EO applications for satellite data acquisition, processing, distribution, preservation, circulation and user access, anomaly life cycle management, system maintenance and integration of new EO missions. Tasks The Operational Support Engineer in Data Access will Manage the EO applications and their releases when delivered by software developers andor maintainers Verify the documentation and check the adequacy of the test specifications of new applications and their updates Validate operationally new applications and following releases exploiting a dedicated preoperational environment Manage the Transfer to Operations TTO of the applications in terms of definition of installation plans and consistency check of the deliveries Provide support to the management and monitoring of all EO applications of the dissemination chain processing facilities, dissemination servers, data catalogues, user access Interface with the ICT and Security Services Support, under the responsibility of the ESA Service Managers, the integration of new EO missions or new EO applications within the data access service Provide high level 2nd3rd level engineering support to anomaly investigation, route cause identification and resolution, even by workaround. Skills and Experience Technical skills Knowledge of Anomaly Management best practices Knowledge of Software AIV activity best practices Knowledge of Configuration and Change Management best practices Working experience on complex systems in Ground Segment contexts Knowledge of the Linux operating system Capacity of shell programming and bash scripting Good Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite Writing skills for issuing technical documentation as notes, minutes, specifications, procedures, reports Personal skills Fluent in English Language both written and spoken Good communications skills Capacity of working in team Capacity of achieving schedule and milestones Capacity of working under pressure How to Apply Looking to take your career to the next level? Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Masters degree in Engineering or equivalent qualifications Relevant experience in the design and engineering of safety critical systems Relevant experience of application of RAMS engineering to space programs, including in ground andor ground based systems and operations Experience in design and engineering of safety critical systems A handson knowledge of the RAMS analyses and methodologies Hardware and Software, preparation of relevant RAMS documentation during the overall project lifecycle and application of ECSS dependability and safety standards Experience in dependability and safety engineering management processes and objectives and experience during operations is an advantage Experience in the field of ground safety and projects assistance in obtaining the relevant launch center safety certification is an advantage Knowledge of RTCADO178C Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification and related certification schemes, and experience in interfacing certification authorities is considered an asset Knowledge of the way data safety data are generated, validated and retained in support of the ISS programme safety certification Knowledge of EU Safety Directive as Directive 9837EC Machinery, Directive 9992EC Risk from Explosive Atmospheres, Directive 9723EC Pressure Equipment and other safety directives relevant for space is considered an asset Familiarity with space product assurance practices together with a good working knowledge of appropriate RAMS tools is an advantage Knowledge of the Navigation domain or experience in Galileo would be an asset Familiarity with space product assurance practices is an advantage Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. Overview Providing expert technical support to ESA projects, programmes and general studies throughout all project phases, specifically in the field of TTC and PDT antennas Participating in project reviews and performing inhouse design and tradeoffs to support projectspecific technology developments Defining, initiating and monitoring RD activities covering both long and shortterm needs, specifically in the field of TTC and PDT antennas Monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining stateoftheart expertise in TTC and PDT antennas. Specific qualification requirements The candidate shall have experience of system engineering including Master degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physics. Experience in TTC and PDT antennas, architectures and technologies as applied to space. Industrial experience is a major asset. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday.
