Job description For our customer, the European Space Agency ESA, we are seeking an experienced SystemConcurrent Design Engineer to work at ESAs ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Responsibilities You will be assigned to the Systems and Concurrent Engineering Section within the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management. The sections activities centre around the Concurrent Design Facility CDF a stateoftheart facility equipped with a network of computers, multimedia devices and software tools, which allows a team of experts from several disciplines to apply the concurrent engineering method to the design of future space missions. It facilitates a fast and effective interaction of all disciplines involved, ensuring consistent and highquality results in a much shorter time. The primary use is to assess the technical and financial feasibility of future space missions and new spacecraft concepts e.g. internal prephase A or Level0 assessment studies. You will provide support to the sections activities in the areas of systems and Concurrent Engineering CE. In particular, support to development, implementation, and adoption in ESA projects of ModelBased System Engineering MBSE systems engineering modelling concurrent engineering tools methods technology developments enhancing adoption of MBSE practices The activities will be in the area of systems engineering, including support to ESA projects applying or willing to apply MBSE methods, tools and standards to support MBSE tools and infrastructure development maintenance in support to systems and concurrent engineering modelling including CE tools like OCDT This is a fulltime position located at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The requested start of work is September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. Qualifications Competencies You will need to have A Masters level degree, or equivalent qualification, in a spacerelated Engineering subject or Physics. A minimum of 4 years relevant professional postgraduate experience, including relevant practical knowledge of Concurrent Engineering applied to space mission assessment and design, feasibility studies, as well as system design modelling tools. Experience in multidisciplinary system modelling, using data modelling languages e.g. Unified Modelling LanguageSystem Modelling Language SysML and associated modelling applications e.g. MagicDraw, Capella, Enterprise Architect, or comparable modelling languages as well as supporting tools. Knowledge of objectoriented programming in e.g. Java, data science and data reporting tools e.g. Jupyter notebooks, systems engineering and space mission analysis or other systemsrelated disciplines engineering tools e.g. MATLAB, STK, MathCad, Catia, etc. Experience in requirements management and verification engineering experience in and good knowledge of Model Based System Engineering. Specific tasks to be performed Support Mission Studies from Phase 0 up to Phase B2CD. Running detector technology development activities and detector predevelopment activities. General tasks to be performed Support to technology development contracts and performance of inhouse design work. In particular, assist in the establishment of requirements and configurations for payload equipment and subsystems involving Solid state lasers. Fibreoptic components. Detectors and focal plane instrumentation. Quantumelectronic devices and systems, including optical atomic clocks. Superconducting devices and sensors.
