It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy for a Thermal Design Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. You will provide technical support to the CPS Thermal Architect or Spacecraft Thermal Architect when required. You will be responsible for supporting product development activities for Mechanical Platform. The successful candidate will be subject to security clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include I The Thermal Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support to the CPS Thermal Architect or Spacecraft Thermal Architect when required Conducting tests to validate flight thermal installations during ambient or spacecraft thermal vacuum testing. Reviewing and analysing test results. Compiling validation reports. Supporting thermal analysis campaigns by coordinating the required resources, providing technical advice and performing the analysis when appropriate. Performing tradeoff studies and reviewing analysis results to ensure compliance with defined requirements. Presenting results and design justifications at spacecraft meetings and reviews. Supporting team meetings. Reviewing design drawings. Performing hardware inspections to ensure compliance with design standards. II The Thermal Engineer will also be responsible for supporting product development activities for Mechanical Platform Analysing requirements and conducting design tradeoffs. One major development currently ongoing is for Electric Orbit Raising. Coordinating analytical support and conducting the analysis when appropriate. Designing and documenting verification tests and coordinating the necessary resources to carry them out. Analysing, documenting and presenting test results. Supporting meetings and reviews when required. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree in Thermal Engineering, Knowledge of Thermal analysis and Propulsion systems, Experience in Spacecraft Design and Thermal Engineering, Thermal Analysis Esan. Management of a small team. Good communications skills, Good listening skills, Problem solving skills. Computer skills Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Advanced level of English. Job Description In the frame of ESA and NASA space missions, Active Space Technologies GmbH is performing a broad range of mechanical design and manufacturing activities for instruments and subsystems. The candidate will be responsible for performing the following tasks Create manufacturing drawings of parts to ISO standards. Create assembly drawings and procedures for assemblies to ISO standards. Create all associated manufacturing documentation such as parts lists, interface control drawings, and procurement specifications. Perform analytical evaluation of joints bolted, welded, or bonded. Negotiate with suppliers Germany, Europe for the procurement of the designed parts and any additional standard parts needed. Support during quality audits of suppliers. Support during internal incoming inspections of the procured parts. Support during assembly processes. Support during functionality and proof load tests. Required Experience and skills Bachelor or equivalent degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. 3 or more years of experience as Design Engineer in the space sector, with duties in the abovementioned disciplines, having done the work under a Configuration Management system compliant to ECSS standards. Wellfounded knowledge of the space environment, space hardware and typical PAQA procedures and issues of the space sector. Fluent in English, spoken and written Fluent in German, spoken and written Proven ability to create, write and maintain technical documents Team spirit and flexibility Desired Experience Specific experience in design, manufacturing and testing of mechanisms for use in space instrumentation and space environment, including reliability analyses, spacequalification standards and procedures, and qualification testing. Familiarity with metrology tools and methods. Experience with Solid Edge, Solid Works or CATIA. Additional experience in safety hazard analysis will bring a significant addedvalue to your application. Wage The compensation will be between 42000 and 60000 year before taxes, depending on qualifications and experiences.
