It has an annual revenue of around 14 billion and employs approximately 40,000 people.A vacancy for an Optical Instrument Design Engineer mf has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Toulouse. You will join the System Studies Advanced Projects department TSPEF61, managing several design contracts simultaneously for a duration of 6 months to 1 and a half years. Each study is carried out with a team of 3 to 5 people. Depending on your experience, you will be responsible for one or two studies.Typically, a preproject study involves the following activities Starting from preliminary specifications of the mission, definition of instrument concepts to meet needs. For each concept, sizing and making a first order definition of the different subassemblies type of optical combination, choice of detectors, mechanical and electrical architecture, establishing performance reviews MTF, SB report, etc., Comparing different concepts and choosing a concept, integrating feasibility, performance and development criteria duration, risk, cost, Interfacing with the customer and if necessary with the science team on the specifications of the mission, More detailed studies and analysis on the critical points of a concept optical combination, alignment tolerances, thermoelastic stability, electronic functions, etc. with the support of different specialists from the instrument division, Detailed performance reviews, and interface reviews dimensions, mass, power, data rates, implementation of deliverable performance models if necessary, Production of a development plan and estimation of costs, definition of the development process, test plan, and test resources necessary, Writing of preliminary specifications for certain componentsequipment and consultation with suppliers, identification of European organisations who may intervene in the project according to their experience and knowhow, Writing of designstudy reports in French or in English, oral presentations in front of the customer, Response to calls for tender Proposals for modelling or RD activities, Publications, participation in conferences. This position will require occasional travel for business once a month in Europe, and, as such, you must be able to travel accordingly.As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some of the following skills and experience. About this role As a Design Engineer within the Propulsion team at Rocket Lab you will be responsibile for the Rutherford Rocket Engine CAD models, drawings, improvements and concepts using Solidworks. The rocket engine is a LoxKerosene regenerative cooled pump fed engine that is the workhorse for Rocket Labs orbital launcher program and is named after the famous New Zealand scientist Ernest Rutherford. Day to day you will be working closely with propulsion experts and engineering analysts to develop the engine design. You will also be working with manufacturing staff, machining shops and suppliers to ensure the components meet specifications and deliver schedules. You will also need to communicate extensively with assembly and test engineers to capture and incorporate all design improvements to refine the engine.

Senior Design Engineer

You will be responsible for maintaining a high degree of CAD competence in spacecraft design accommodation including Detailed Design within an engineering group or Project team environment. You will be an integral part of a small Team of Design Engineers supporting a Principal Designer. All the project DO outputs must be checked, signed stamped by the MDO lead design engineer to the checklists CATIA procedures. Administer the release of drawings, BOMs ECOs related to the allocated project. Provide support to other general DO activities, e.g. Process improvements, bids etc. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Minimum requirement of HND in an Engineering discipline. Provide support to other general DO activities, e.g. Process improvements, bids etc. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Minimum requirement of HND in an Engineering discipline. Excellent working knowledge experience of CATIA V5. Strong Engineering technical background including working knowledge of GT Geometrical Tolerancing and DFM Design for Manufacturing. Strong experience in Design Manufacturing in the Aerospace industry. Experience managing work packages, dealing with budgets headcount requirements. Previous experience managing a small team would be desirable. Experience of VPM3DCOM. Practical understanding of Design solutions. The department is focused on System Accommodation and Detailed Design CAD activities for Telecommunication and Observation Satellites. As an Assistant Design Engineer in the Mechanical Design Office, you will be carrying out a range of Design Activities as required by the Lead Designer. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Support to other general DO activities i.e. process improvements, proposals etc. This role will involve rare travels for business mainly in Toulouse and Portsmouth. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Educated to a HNCHND minimum level with a first experience in the Aerospace industry. Experience of Catia V5 Some practical experience of working in a team or work placement experience PC literate, mainly MS Office Negotiation level in English required good level in French would be desirable.
