ARM server maker offers cloud service to port x86 code
2013-03-06 21:12:10| InfoWorld: Top News
ARM processors are used mostly in smartphones, but Boston Limited is offering a service through which developers can port existing x86 applications to work on ARM servers, which can then be tested via a cloud service. As part of the effort, Boston is partnering with software company Ellexus to help developers port the code to ARM servers, and is offering, via the cloud, quad-core ARM processors on which the ported code can be tested. This reduces the need for companies to purchase ARM servers to test code.

One reason for Apples overpriced cables: The Lightning digital AV adapter has its own ARM SoC
2013-03-04 20:51:49| Extremetech
If you want a crisp 1080p signal from your iPhone or iPad, the best bet is to plug it in directly using Apple's own $49 digital AV adapter. Unfortunately, it seems that this latest iteration of the device -- designed to work with the new Lightning connector -- isn't putting out full 1080p. Even worse, it seems that it is introducing noticeable compression artifacts. Now comes the search for truth amongst all of the internet rage this is kicking up among Apple enthusiasts.

ARM CEO hopeful for Windows RT
2013-02-28 20:51:18| InfoWorld: Top News
Microsoft's new version of Windows written for ARM processors may not be an unqualified success, but ARM's CEO Warren East said the software maker will learn from its mistakes with Windows RT and come back with a better product. "I'm well aware there is a perceived wisdom that RT hasn't been as successful as lots of people thought it was going be. Quite certainly I'm sanguine about it," East said during an interview at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Worlds smallest ARM chip has huge implications for implantable tech
2013-02-27 19:00:34| Extremetech
Freescale has just introduced the worlds smallest ARM Cortex powered microcontroller unit (MCU), the Kinetis KL02. As compared with the nearest competing MCU, the Kinetis consumes 25% less board area yet provides 60% more general purpose input-output (GPIO). Freescale has not identified the customer driver for this chip but a quick look at the datasheet may give us rough idea -- and it may be closer than you think.
