It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy for an OnBoard Software Project Manager has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. The function of the Engineering technical unit for Data Processing OnBoard Software is to provide a central competence that supports the evolving needs of the business, working on space systems, satellite platforms, payloads and equipment. As part of the UKs On Board Software Department, the successful candidate will work in direct support to the Software architect and development team that is responsible for delivery of formally qualified software and management of subcontracted software to the Business Units Project Office. The software developed by this Department is of an embedded real time nature. Software is deployed within the onboard space systems e.g. Satellite, and Satellite Instrumentation, to provide the required Functionality and Control. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. I Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Set up, lead, monitor, control and conclude software projects in respect of the organisation, the processes and the commitments requirements, quality, timescales and costs. Produce, monitor and maintain project schedule. Produce, manage and report software cost baseline EAC in front of Airbus DS management and external customer. To deliver the entire OnBoard Software on quality, on time, on cost comprising of software developed inhouse and subcontracted. Manage a team of software architects and project managers delivering inhouse and subcontracted software. II Additional, activities and responsibilities include Lead the software architects and project managers on a given project in an effective, coordinated and motivated fashion. Contribute to the effectiveness of the organisation using the resources and skills from the appropriate specialised departments identify software team training needs. Lead the subcontracting process to select the companyies working on the project, to manage the subcontractor in coordination with the Software Architects and Software Project Managers for the technical aspects, to close the contract technically at the end of the activities. Manage software changes definition, negotiation, decision. Anticipate potential difficulties by operational management mitigate the project risks. Communication and reporting with the Project hierarchy, the direct external Customer and with the final Customer. Prepare the project review documentation to report on software status to Project team department hierarchy. Produce project metrics and indicators collection, checking, analysis and publishing. III The Senior Software Project Manager is also expected to Be willing to travel work for short periods in Airbus Defence Space offices in France or Germany attend reviews at Customer sites UK or Europe. Participate in ongoing implementation of transnational harmonisation of methods processes. Manage their own time and budgets in accordance with project and department requirements. Participate in workshops presentations within Airbus Defence Space and Space Agency establishments. Participate in proposal bids. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree in SystemSoftware Engineering within the SpaceAerospace industry. Technical Software Project Management experience. Experience Managing large projects financially 30 people. Experience of Embedded Realtime SystemsSoftware Engineering. Proven experience in defining and managing system software needs and requirements. Experience of Project scheduling cost analysis methods. Knowledge of the test means validation test means, simulators,.. . Good practical understanding of software engineering lifecycle process. Knowledge of nonsoftware functional areas hardware, electrical etc. Team leadership skills Ability to get the best from team. Effective management of time and resources. Tasks This position is an engineering role involving software verification and validation activities. Essential requirements Knowledge required includes Competence in one or more modern computer languages such as C, C, Java, UML, XML, SQL, depending on the requirements of the work, Familiarity with modern software development environments and systems, including GUIbased MMIs, familiarity with object oriented analysis, design programming Competence in C optionally in JAVA Familiarity with UNIX or LINUX environments Knowledge of the CORBA Standard Knowledge and experience in Database administration Knowledge and experience in Software engineering and documentation Communication engineering knowledge should be also required for tasks in TCPIP, UDP, IEEE488, Web technology including related protocols.
