Apple revenues up 22% on strong growth in China

(Telecompaper) Apple reported revenues for its fiscal fourth quarter up 22 percent year-on-year to USD 51.5 billion, just beating its outlook of USD 49-51 billion for the quarter. The growth was led by a doubling of sales in the Greater China region, to USD 12.5 billion. Net profit in the three months to September rose to USD 11.1 billion from USD 8.5 billion a year ago, and EPS was up 38 percent to USD 1.96 per share. The company's gross margin improved to 39.9 percent from 38.0 percent a year ago and was also better than expected.

Yarn prices have further declined in the last seven days in China, in line with a slight fall of fiber prices and a new surge of yarn imports from India. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Domestic and import yarn prices are compared. Historical data are available for download.

BASF cuts 2015 targets on a weak China and Brazil

BASF, the world's largest chemicals firm by sales, today lowered its full-year earnings guidance on weak sales in China, Brazil and other emerging markets. BASF, whose products include car coatings, foam chemicals, catalytic converters and mining chemicals, said it now expected a slight decrease in sales and adjusted earnings before interest and taxes.

LG Chem churns out EV batteries in China

South Korea's leading battery maker LG Chem said Tuesday that it had completed the construction of a plant for electric car batteries in Nanjing, China. The Seoul-headquartered battery firm has already inked supply deals with 16 local car companies, including China's top three automakers Shanghai Automotive Industry Group, Dongfeng Motor Group and the FAW Group, and supplied batteries for 1 million EVs.
