Vodafone Spain, Huawei complete first call with 5G NSA system
2018-02-20 15:43:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Vodafone Spain and Huawei have completed what they claim to be the first call made using the new 5G New Radio Non-Standalone operation (NSA) system. The standard was approved by the 3GPP TSG RAN group in December and still requires control signalling to be sent over LTE networks. In the live 5G call test, Vodafone successfully connected its Innovation Centre in Castelldefels near Barcelona to its Spanish HQ in Madrid. The call between Vodafone's director of business Albert Buxade and Spain's secretary of state for the information society and the digital agenda Jose Maria Lassalle was completed over Huawei's Radio Access Network (RAN) using spectrum in the 3.7GHz frequency.
