Our team and mission The Mission Studies Office is responsible for assessmentdefinition studies and associated technology preparation activities of the ESA science missions in early phases 0, A, B1. The Office is organized in 2 sections, namely Solar System Missions Section, handling system definition studies in the field of solar system missions and Astrophysics and Fundamental Physics Missions Section, in the field of astrophysics and fundamental physics missions. The Mission Studies Office is part of the Future Missions Department, which has the overall responsibility for definition and technology preparation of future science missions, and for small missions implementation. Post Young Graduate Trainee for System Engineering for Lunar Exploration This post is classified F1. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands, Our team and mission The Lunar Exploration Office is responsible for the set up and implementation of a cooperation between ESA and the Russian Space Agency ROSCOSMOS on Lunar Exploration. The objectives are to flightprove technologies and capabilities for future exploration missions and to gain knowledge to plan safe, effective and efficient human exploration at the Moon. Within this cooperation framework, ESA will provide products and services to the upcoming Russian robotic missions, particularly to a landing mission planned in 20222023, followed by a sample return mission. The European contributions encompass several elements precision and safe landing, lowtemperature drilling and sample analysis instrument, landing site characterisation and operations support. Phase C of these elements will start in 2018 including detailed design, engineering models manufacturing and extensive testing in various facilities, contracted to European industries. The Lunar Lander Team is also supporting feasibility studies of other future lunar missions as well as related technological activities.
