Ground Segment Data System Engineer

Position Reference 1049 We are currently looking for a Ground Segment Data System Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. You will have the opportunity to contribute to activities mainly corresponding to various stages of the Detailed Design Phase C of a given programme under definition and development, and Phase D Implementation and Validation, as contribution to Integration, Verification and Validation. The main emphasis is on the payload data ground segment of the EPSSG programme. This covers payload data acquisition ground stations and data processing elements. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Requirements engineering in DOORS. This includes review, specification and refinement of existing requirements, their uptraces to parent Ground Segment specifications, justifications and verification methods. Support to the procurement of payload data acquisition processing elements by advising on technical solutions proposed by the responsible contractors, and by reviewing documentation to confirm its compliance with the requirements. Refinement of ICDs, especially those between payload data acquisition processing elements and other GS functions. Support to the preparation and execution of the testing, integration and acceptance of procured elements. Support to the installation of ground segment element at sites, and their integration into the overall Ground Segment system. Verification and validation IVV of the integrated Ground Segment. Review of System, Space Segment and Ground Segment documentation dealing with requirements, concepts, algorithms and technical analyses of relevance for data processing, including review of calibration concepts defined by the Space Segment with emphasis on their implications on Ground Segment data processing concepts, interfaces and architecture. Participation in formal reviews and technical meetings at System and Ground Segment level. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in the areas and disciplines stated Experience in system engineering practices and processes, especially in the field of space systems engineering, including knowledge of ECSS standards and system life cycle processes Extensive experience in payload data ground segments for large and complex Earth Observation missions, including L1L2 processing software Experience in management and traceability of complex requirements structures and the management of their verification via VCDs Experience in the preparation of ground segment documentation relating to requirements engineering, design, and IVV planning and execution. Demonstrated experience in the above, with emphasis on overall systems engineering aspects of payload data ground segments or IVV of payload data ground segments. Ability to maintain a system overview. You should have a systematic approach to the work, and be able to plan the work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. Ability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation is essential, as is the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context. Supporting the division in the area of EndtoEnd Simulation and System Engineering Tools for the preparation of future Earth Observation missions. Definition and development of the EndtoEnd Mission Performance Simulators. Install and use those E2E simulators on the EOPSF IT infrastructure for performance evaluation and system tradeoffs. Ensure the consistent evolution and maintenance of the E2E simulators and proper configuration and storage of the relevant inputoutput data sets. Supporting the development of generic building blocks and modules, and aim at maximum synergy and reuse of those building blocks and modules from one E2E simulator to the next making use of ESA OpenSF infrastructure. Participating to the development of System Engineering Tools for preliminary analysis and sizing of future EO missions Initiating and supporting work in the area of modeling of system or subsystem aspects. Preparing requirements, reviewing, evaluating and checking different architectures, designs and proposals, but also identifying deficiencies and problem areas and giving some assistance in their resolution. Getting a broad view on commercially available recurrent Earth Observation platforms, checking performance and addressing interfaces with possible payloads. Initiating requirement analysis and tradeoff, performance and budget analysis with their apportionment and requirement traceability. Exposing designs to Earth Observation scientific community having frequent iteration with scientific group through bimonthly Mission Advisory Groupmeeting, simulation support activities on Level 2 processor, ESA scientific studies reviews, etc... Profile You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Education in Engineering or equivalent with at least 4 years of relevant experience in the space industry, Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and customer focus Ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment.
