Tasks As a member of the CSM Software Librarian team, the Consultant shall support the technical administration and maintenance of the various facility Intelbased computer hardware platforms, Windows operating systems and configurations of the software installations. The duties shall range from technical support to the continuous operation of the system, including problem analysis, investigation, resolution and definition of maintenance procedures, to the support of procurement of hardware, software and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. In particular the tasks include Support to the administration, maintenance and smooth running of 247 operational computer systems Intel x86based computers running Microsoft Windows 2003 and 2008 server and Windows XP7 by monitoring and tuning the operating system, hardware, network performance and in the case of anomalies, identifying and applying appropriate first line corrective actions. Investigation into and implementation of suitable solutions to problems with facility Hardware HW , Networks, the Windows Operating Systems OS SW, relevant applications software SW and Commercial Off The Shelf software products COTS. Ensuring that in the case of HW, OS SW, SW, network andor COTS problems, then the operational configuration can be restored. Investigation into relevant anomalies and enhancements, their documentation and classification, with suitable follow up of the delivery of software updates. Implementation and management of suitable backup and restore strategies to include definition and execution of suitable backuprestore procedures Liaison with external providers of HW, OS andor COTS for the request and follow up maintenance interventions. Packaging, Centralized Installation, configuration and tuning of OS SWCOTS and system parameters to optimize performance Analysis, planning and execution of HW, OS SW and COTS upgrades and reconfigurations taking into account any compatibility issues Administration of user accounts and software licences. Setup, maintenance and performance of an appropriate level of security, both at host and network level. Analysis of the maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools to fulfil them. Support to other areas and teams in the maintenance department as requested. Definition, creation and management of technical documentation and procedures in support of these activities. Participation in technical meetings and reviews. Provision of standbycall out support to operations. Provision of standbycall out support to operations. Provision of support to critical operations out of normal hours, as required. Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline the consultant shall have a minimum of 5 years experience in the area of technical systems support on distributed Windows 2003, 2008, Windows XP and Windows 7 running on Intel x86 hardware. The consultant should have a minimum of 3 years working in a 247 operational environment characterized by high availability requirements. Summary To support the Science and Technology Operations Centre of the Lisa Pathfinder mission, a technology demonstrator for the LISA mission. Objective The Science and Technology Operations Centre STOC is the point of interface to the scientific community, and is responsible for the payload scheduling, quicklook data analysis, data processing and archiving. The engineer will be developing this infrastructure. Responsibilities Duties 1. Activities during the development phase a STOC Operations preparation The service to be provided by the Operations Engineer will entail supporting the final preparation of the STOC for operations.This includes Support the generation of the detailed payload operations Support the validation of the payload activities using simulators Support the writing of the STOC Operations Plans and Procedures b STOC SW development The Operations Engineer will support the installation of the STOC software modules e.g. Mission Planning, Data Ingestion, Simulator in their operational environment at STOC, their configuration control and their acceptance tests. c STOC integration Ground Segment Tests The Operations Engineer will provide service support for the definition, preparation and execution of i the STOC integration tests, ii the Ground Segment tests SOVTs and iii the STOC Simulations. This includes Prepare test plans, test data and procedures to applied during these tests Participate in the tests, the debriefings and write the necessary test reports and raise SPRs as well as nonconformance reports as appropriate 2. Activities during the operational phase a STOC operational duties The Operations Engineer will be responsible for providing a service to a number of operational duties. This includes Generate the operational payload mission planning files to be sent to the MOC Monitor the data ingestion tasks that will receive the telemetry and auxiliary data from MOCs Data Disposition System Support the data archiving tasks that will populate the archive Support the investigation of payload anomalies and the implementation of the recovery b STOC offline support activities The Operations Engineer will support the maintenance of the STOC facilities during operations. This includes Maintenance of the STOC operational databases e.g. payload telecommand sequences, payload activities Maintenance of the STOC Operations Plans and Procedures c STOC SW maintenance The service provided by the Operations Engineer will cover the monitoring of the maintenance of the software modules and provide to the developers the priorities for the resolution of the software problems as seen from the users side. The service provided by the Operations Engineer will cover the support for the installation of these tools and their configuration control at STOC. Qualifications Experience University degree or equivalent in a related field Experience needed in the development, testing and operations of a scientific operations centre or a similar system Experience in satellite payload operations Essential Skills The selected engineer must have good interpersonal and communication skills Be comfortable in an international working environment Be willing to travel During the operational phase of the mission extensive stays at ESOC Darmstadt, Germany may be needed. Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities. As already experienced key role in the definition and the validation of specific operation preparation phases such as SSVT, validation campaigns or rehearsals.
