NEMA Business Conditions Indexes drop in September.

NEMA’s Electroindustry Business Conditions Index for current conditions in North America fell 10 points in September, dropping to 42.5. Fifteen percent of panelists reported the business environment facing electrical equipment manufacturers improved in September, while 30% claimed it worsened. Meanwhile, EBCI for future North American conditions declined modestly to 52.5 in September after measuring 55 in each of the last 2 months.

Current and Future NEMA Business Conditions climb in October.

Increasing from 42.5 in September, NEMA's Electroindustry Business Conditions Index (EBCI) for current conditions in North America measured 44.7 in October. Measure of intensity of change in current business conditions remained at -0.4. Separately, EBCI for future North American conditions rose to 68.4 in October after measuring 52.5 in September.

NEMA publishes nonshielded cable standard.

NEMA published ANSI/NEMA WC 71 ICEA S-96-659-2014 Nonshielded Cables Rated 2,001–5,000 V for Use in the Distribution of Electric Energy. Standard applies to materials, constructions, and testing of 2,001 through 5,000 Volt nonshielded power cables having insulations of thermoplastic polyethylene, cross-linked polyethylene, or cross-linked rubber. Last published in 1999, document is for users and producers of insulated cable.

NEMA Publishes Standard for wet-process porcelain insulators.

Available for download and in hard copy, ANSI/NEMA C29.7-2015 American National Standard for Wet-Process Porcelain Insulators—High-Voltage Line-Post Type covers high-voltage, line-type insulators that are made of wet-process porcelain and used in transmission/distribution of electrical energy. This revision includes changes to sampling sizes, glaze and color requirements, units of measurement, and marking and packing requirements.
