The successful applicant will join the department STV Stress Design Authority. Your mission will be to Independently plan analysis campaign for team and ensure completion of all tasks required, in the allocated time, to demonstrate that the structure design meets its strength and stiffness requirements. Independently lead major project and on any design team. Sign off for area of responsibility. Responsible for maintaining a high degree of technical competency in their specialised field within an engineering group. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include To identify all strength and stiffness requirements and ensure that they are valid. To perform or supervise all structural analysis necessary to ensure that all strength and stiffness requirements are met with a minimum mass design. To ensure that the design incorporates all features necessary to meet the strength and stiffness requirements. To provide a detailed definition of all structural testing required verifying that the strength and stiffness requirements are met. To monitor these tests and issue a test assessment report that demonstrates that requirements have been met and that the pretest analysis was of sufficient accuracy. Write clear and concise strength summary reports demonstrating adequate strength margins for all significant possible modes of failure. Write other associated analysis documentation. Provide design support to manufacture to ensure that strength and stiffness requirements are met for all nonconformances to design with appropriate corrective action. To present strength and stiffness analyses and test requirements and assessments at formal design reviews. To prepare and maintain work plans, schedules, work package descriptions and costs. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or similar related discipline with working experience in the Space, Aerospace industry Extensive detailed stressing and hand calculation experience for lightweight structures are mandatory for this role Extensive experience with the analysis of techniques and methods for light weight structures strength and stiffness prediction that are generally common to spacecraft structures analysis Experience in classical computer techniques including the use of the industry standard finite element programme with prepost processing software, Extensive experience in appreciation of the relevant design drivers and associated, manufacturing issues in their specialist field Indepth knowledge of MS Office, Nastran Knowledge of Femap and MathCAD would be a plus Ability to establish and execute work plan and cost estimate for projects Ability to train, advise and supervise team members in main activities Excellent presentation and communication skills Negotiation level in English. Responsible for the control, correctness, accuracy release of all drawings, models, Digital Mock Up DMU, bills of materials engineering change notes as related to the configured items for allocated projects to cost schedule. Ensuring all outputs from the Mechanical Design Office MDO is correct to the project requirements as stated by the core team generally the Mechanical Architect. All the project DO outputs must be checked, signed stamped by the MDO lead design engineer to the checklists CATIA procedures. Authorised design signatory for manufacturing drawings, BOMs ECOs related to the allocated project. Specific responsibility for the estimation planning of DO related activities manpower requirements to meet those tasks. Allocation of manpower is sought through the line management. Supervision of other DO design engineers working on the project. Provide support to other general DO activities, e.g. Process improvements, bids etc. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Minimum requirement of HND in an Engineering discipline. Excellent working knowledge experience of CATIA V5. Strong Engineering technical background including working knowledge of GT Geometrical Tolerancing and DFM Design for Manufacturing. Strong experience in Design Manufacturing in the Aerospace industry. Experience managing work packages, dealing with budgets headcount requirements. Previous experience managing a small team would be desirable. Experience of VPM3DCOM. Practical understanding of Design solutions.
