Specification, setup and running of Proofofconcept prototype in lab environment. Detailed specification of design andor solution, incl. detailed rollout plan. MadridE, LongyearbyenSvalbardN, FucinoI as well as the WAN links connecting the remote sites to the EUM HQ Contribute to the development and deployment of network solutions for the future satellite programs ground infrastructure Develop an understanding of the existing network monitoring and reporting capabilities, with a view to establishing a roadmap for the implementation of more developed realtime performance monitoring and reporting solution The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate should bring the following skills and experience Experience of network engineering in such environments throughout its lifecycle, from identification of needs to deployment and operations. Experience of carrying out specifying, preparing, planning and executing network engineering activities, including their coordination and technical guidance, working with other engineers within and outside the team involved in the activities, and with the customersusers and other stakeholders. Indepth knowledge of Cisco technology and solutions for these environments. Ability to present verbally and in writing network solutions and systems in a comprehensible way, with the specific ability to explain relevant details while keeping the focus on the overall system aspects. Ability to translate IT jargon into customer business terms. Experience of working in and applying the above skills in highavailability, alwayson production environments, driven by high availability requirements. Experience of interacting with suppliers of network products and service providers as part of network infrastructure, services and solutions development and deployment. Experience of configuring and operating network management and monitoring systems such as Netbrain or SolarWinds. Ability to automate network routine monitoring and maintenance tasks. Experience of supporting procurement of network systems and services Microsoft Office Suite. In addition, knowledge and handson experience with the following is considered very desirable MSVisio application. Demonstrated capability of technical authoring structureorganisation of concept, design, and test specification documents, and of creating and working with technical network diagrams Visio. The principle tasks and responsibilities will include Assistance in preparation of invitation to tenders related to ESA RD. Activities and contracts technical followup. Specific engineering support to space projects developed by ESA andor by major European industriesoperators. Validation of designs by means of analyses, simulations, laboratory testing and field trials possibly in cooperation with third parties. Design, implementation and testing tasks for technological projects. Digital communication system and subsystem techniques, highspeed processing techniques for communication via satellites. Knowledge of satellite communication architectures and techniques. Experience in analysis and design of modern digital communication systems, coding and synchronization issues. Familiarity with modern communication system and subsystem simulation techniques, as a minimum Matlab and CC program languages. Knowledge of modern prototyping and testing methodologies for digital communication subsystems is also preferred. Within the generic activities foreseen above, the contractor shall mostly focus on the following technical areas Satellite modem physical and link layer analysis, design, prototyping and testing. SATCOM Systems and network analysis and simulations. Specific qualification requirements Master Degree in Telecommunication Engineering with particular emphasis on digital transmissions from the physical and MAC perspective. Strong technical background in telecommunication engineering and knowledge of the relevant communication protocols is required. Knowledge of the main satellite and terrestrial telecom standards is considered an asset as well as the experience with communication system HW prototyping and testing e.g. FPGA, DSP, GPU, microprocessors. Broad technical expertise in telecommunication networks design with particular emphasis on physical and link layer, and good understanding of multiple access telecommunication protocols. Good knowledge and experience in the use of communication simulation software tools e.g. Matlab, C is required. A few years of work experience in the field of complex digital communications systems, subsystems and networks is required. Familiarity with satellite TTC transmission techniques is a plus. Languages skills Fluent English both written and spoken.
