We are looking to further enhance our team by adding a Data Centre Test and Products Operations Engineer You will be based initially for 2 years at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Extension of a further 2 years may be possible. In this large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment with challenging tasks and responsibilities. Your Tasks Include The key person shall support the Data Centre Operations team and will report to the Data Centre Operations Team Leader. The main tasks of the key person are Provision of support to the daily monitoring and first line support of the Data Centre, and analysis and reporting of operational anomalies. Provision of support to the user queries received by the user service helpdesk regarding Data Centre services. Support to the development of Data Centre tools for monitoring and reporting. Provision of support to prototyping concepts for evolving the Data Centre services to support current and future Client programmes. Provision of support to the test automation of the Data Centre evolutions. Provision of support to the development of new formats for the Archive data. Provision of support to metadata content and their specification in the new formats. Preparation and maintenance of Data Centre documentation such as operational procedures and service guides for users. Preparation of material to support the usage of Data Centre services. Your Profile In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering science discipline, the key person must have excellent team working skills, being able to work autonomously and have good analytical skills. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require also very good communication, presentation skills combined with the ability to perform under high workloads. The key person shall have skills and experience in the following mandatory areas minimum 3 years for each Working in an operations environment supporting the analysis of system and user support issues. Good knowledge of the testing and test automation for a complex hardware and software system. Experience of working with Earth Observation data formats, their visualization and processing. Programming experience in Java language, UNIX environment, scripting in Shell and Perl. Technical knowledge for specification, validation and transformation using XMLXSDXLT and their associated tools. Experience in using SQL to access relational databases such as Oracle. Experience of handling and manipulating binary data. Practical knowledge of the following will be a distinct advantage Experience in the development of the product formats, ideally netCDF and HDF. Good knowledge of standards, conventions and guidelines for the specification of metadata for Earth Observation data, for example Climate and Forecast Conventions. Experience with Meteorological data formats such as McIDAS, GeoTiff, BUFR and GRIB. Experience with using Data Access tools such as IDV, MATLAB, IDL and THREDDS. Knowledge of the SubVersion source code control systems. Knowledge of Software Development Environments such as the Eclipse. Knowledge of the QFS Test automation software. Fluency in English is mandatory and a working knowledge of French would be an advantage, together with good communication skills. We are looking for someone to carry out Operations Quality Assurance Support at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Tasks The provision of process assurance and QA in EUMETSAT is the responsibility of the Process Assurance and Management Support division. It provides its services to all other divisions across all four EUMETSAT departments. The consultant will be a member of the PRS team which provides process assurance and QA support to the Operations and Services to Users department OPS. The latter has responsibility for running EUMETSATs operational satellite systems and ensuring the delivery of the organisations data services to its user community. The consultant will assist the two members of PRS staff responsible for providing the support, reporting to the more senior member, who has the role of Technical Officer. The tasks of the OPS QA consultant shall include, but not necessarily be limited to the following Contributing to the provision of QA support and advice to members of OPS, to help ensure the correct implementation and performance of operational activities, in accordance with EUMETSATs Management System and all relevant OPS procedural documentation. Following selected operational activities, attending relevant operations meetings and identifying any aspects of concern of process QA relevance. Reviewing OPS procedural documentation procedures, guides, working practices, etc., ensuring consistency with the OPS documentation library in general and with the document conventions in use. Providing assistance guidance in the definition and implementation of processes to members of OPS. Supporting assessments of OPS processes and service reviews, recommending improvements where appropriate. Establishing, maintaining, analysing and reporting on metrics which provide insight into selected OPS processes andor operational services. Supporting Risk Management activities in accordance with the OPS Risk Management Plan organising and advising risk reviews, maintaining risk registers, following up mitigation actions, and producing report information. Note that the above list is nonexhaustive, but it serves to show the typical range of tasks that will be assigned to the Consultant. Further tasks will be assigned as needs arise, taking into account the profile requirements. Essential requirements The consultant shall have a university degree or equivalent in a technical subject and at least 3 years experience of a QA process assurance role, preferably in an operational 247 data processing andor serviceprovision environment. Experience of satellite ground segment operations would be of special value. The following attributes are essential for this consultancy position Good knowledge of the ISO 9001 standard. Experience of working in an environment where an ISO 9001certified management system is used. Good verbal and written communication skills. Experience of documenting work activities in the form of process definitions, procedures and working practices, plus good userviewpoint writing skills. Experience of QA auditing andor process assessment. Skilled in using the Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel and Outlook. Desirable requirements Any of the following attributes will be considered advantageous Knowledge of ISO 31000 Risk Management andor experience of the activity.
