Telespazio VEGA Deutschland has been supporting the European Space Industry for over 30 years, including ESA, DLR, EUMETSAT and CNES. This is a regular opportunity for an experienced Engineer to work in the domain of satellite operations operations preparations in our premises or in Darmstadt. The position is part of a Spacecraft Operations Engineering service to be provided to the Astronomical Missions Division, with initial assignment to the Lisa Pathfinder mission. The position is fulltime, unlimited and to 100 based on customer side in ESOC. Earliest starting date would be 1st of November 2014. This position can also be supported by job share by two people working part time each at 50. Application deadline for this position is 6th of September 2014. ResponsibilitiesDuties The initial focus of the service is to provide independent Procedure validation of the FOP which is issued in Sep2014. The validation is to be conducted on the LPF MCS Simulator. The validation will therefore include the end to end ground systems, in case of problems the location of the issue should be identified and reported using the defined channels. After procedure validation, the main activity areas are Payload operations preparation, validation and execution, including mission planning and commissioning plan and timeline. More general SOE service provision is expected during the LEOP preparation and execution, when the payloads are not active, details will be coordinated with the line manager nearer the time. It is expected that Lisa Pathfinder will launched in Q32015, conduct commissioning in Q42015 and be decommissioned in Q32016. QualificationsExperience University or similar degree in aerospace, electronics or physics Minimum of 2 years experiences with operational aspects of satellites. Essential Skills Spacecraft knowledge on a subsystem level, particular of Payloads Expertise in operational environments Understand and accurately predict behavior of complex systems. Control Theory Service provision will be exclusively in English Able to prioritize and manage several activities in parallel, and across multidomains Familiarity with operational training Familiarity with operational simulators, ideally SimSat Familiarity with satellite control systems, ideally SCOS2000 Familiarity with Operational Payload Desirable Skills Familiarity with Orbits and Attitude Knowledge of satellite or ground operations, or nonspace operational environments Experience with prelaunch activities and launch campaigns of satellites Mission Planning expertise Power Thermal expertise Understanding of Commissioning campaigns for Satellite Payloads Benefits Competitive salary plus a comprehensive benefits package including 30 days holiday, generous training possibilities and Telespazio VEGA Deutschland pension scheme is offered to the successful candidate. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing DESIRABLE SKILLS Experience with On Board Software maintenance Familiarity with Packet Utilisation Standard Familiarity with the ESOC environment Familiarity with satellite control systems, in particular SCOS2000 Familiarity with operational simulators, especially the ones based on SimSat Some experience dealing with external interfaces Familiarity with low Earth orbit satellites Familiarity with multi satellite missions

The European Data Relay System EDRS is a satellite based communication system, for the relay of Earth Observation data received from Low Earth Orbit LEO satellites via a geostationary satellite to the ground. It will be the first ever commercial communication system using laser technology. Airbus Defence and Space is set to become the systems operator and will provide data relay services to its customers. Operations will start in 2015. The EDRS Service and Operations team is being built up, to provide the data relay service from the primary Mission Operations Centre, located in Ottobrunn Germany. You will be a member of the Operations team in charge of performing the following activities during the operational hours of the Primary Mission Operations Centre PMOC Supervision of system performance and of automatic service provision to customers Maintenance of actual mission planning data and the mission schedule Supervision of planning processes and reporting to engineering in case of conflicts Supervision of key management processes Monitoring of the health status of all EDRS components Monitoring of service infrastructure and the distributed IP Network Monitoring the use of the satellite payload Level1 response to anomalies, based on procedures Data collection after anomalies Activation of engineering support if required User Help Desk first response during the operational hours of the PMOC Trouble ticket and incident management, including the generation, support and resolution of problems, for network and customer issues Routine Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul MRO for EDRS equipment Daily shift handover tofrom the BackUp Mission Operations Centre BMOC in Redu Belgium, in accordance with checklists You will be part of a team of several operators, sharing the above duties.
