Spacecraft Operations Engineer for Sentinel2

For our activities in ESOC, we are currently seeking a Spacecraft Operations Engineer. The key person will be primarily assigned to Sentinel 2, with the possibility of supporting other missions within the Earth Observation Missions Division. Tasks The key person will have the following tasks, depending on the mission phase Study of Project Specific Characteristics and Ground Segment Documentation Preparation of Functional Requirements for the Project dedicated Flight Control Software Participation in the Analysis and Design of Satellite Operations Preparation of Functional Requirements for the Project dedicated Flight Control Ground Facilities Preparation of Flight Control and Contingency Procedures Mission Management and Mission Planning Support OnBoard Software Maintenance Support Production of Project Specific Software Validation and Satellite Interface Validation Test SVT Procedures and Participation in SVTs Participation in the System Operations Validation Test SOV, Training and Simulation Programmes Participation in Launch and Early Orbit Phase LEOP and Mission Critical Operations General Flight Control Support Spacecraft Performance Analysis. The primary area of responsibility for the key person is Data Handling, but the candidate may be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional subsystems or systems within the scope of general SOE services. Other areas of responsibility and support specific to Sentinel2 are Validation, test and operation of the MCS, including the OBSM and Mission Planning System Validation, test and operation of the Simulator Generation, validation and maintenance of the FOP primarily on Data Handling, but also for other subsystems Support to test and operate the NDIU Support for FOS procurement, integration and tests Review of satellite documents LEOP support responsible for Data Handling Commissioning support responsible for Data Handling. Qualifications and Requirements The key person will need to fulfil the following requirements Essential Spacecraft subsystem knowledge, preferably for Data Handling Experience in working in an operational environment Experience with flight procedures life cycle Experience with organisation or execution of tests involving both ground and space segment Experience with anomaly investigations Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems Ability to work independently and with little supervision Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel Able to coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields Fluency in English, both in speech and writing. In addition, the candidate shall be assertive, communicative and able to work in a team in a multinational environment. Desirable Experience with On Board Software maintenance Familiarity with Packet Utilisation Standard Familiarity with the ESOC environment Familiarity with satellite control systems, in particular SCOS2000 Familiarity with operational simulators, especially the ones based on SimSat Some experience dealing with external interfaces Familiarity with low Earth orbit satellites Familiarity with multi satellite missions. Operations Support for Science Operations

Tasks Assisting users with the preparation of scientific observations and assisting the Project Scientist and the committees with the selection of the best scientific programme to be performed Assisting users with the data products retrieved from missions so that the best science possible can be obtained Preparing long, medium and shortterm mission plans and schedules Interacting with users mainly via helpdesk in the parameter tuning and maintenance of their observational programmes as mission conditions and knowledge evolve, and in the understanding, analysis and interpretation of the science observation data Assisting in the understanding of the missions instruments and their data Producing and maintaining user support documentation and answer helpdesk questions on instrument operations and data products associated with the instruments Organising and participating in data processing workshops and work with users in understanding how to handle science data Organising scientific workshops upon request Monitoring instrument performance. In operating science operations systems and tools, including Scientific mission planning systems Scientific data processing pipelines Participation in calibration activities and acceptance testing of new software Organisation of scientific workshops. Qualifications and Requirements Knowledge of astronomical instrumentation, acquired through astronomical instrument hardware development andor intensive astronomical data reduction exercise Experience and understanding of farinfrared instruments is a distinct advantage Experience in interacting with the scientific community An interest in performing science research with the mission data is considered a plus. Tasks System engineering and architectural design activities, including operating plans and procedures Designing, developing, implementing, testing, deploying, operating and maintaining software tools and systems, e.g. o Observation proposal handling, mission planning and quicklook systems, parts of which may be distributed to the community, o User support tools, o Interactive analysis and calibration systems, to be distributed as needed to the community for data reduction and analysis, o Data processing pipelines, o Contribute to the definition of Interface Control Documents ICDs and file interchange formats with external coordination units, o Contribute to the maintenance of the overall system, including configuration control and versioning, o Organise and perform end to end system testing with the scientific communities, o Scientific data archives and interfacing these to the virtual observatory, o Scientific and technical WWW systems to support Science Operations Centre, Science Ground Segment and the scientific community. We are currently looking for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer for Sentinel 2 to support our customer in Germany.
