Galileo Ground Segment Operations Engineer

Thorn SDS is seeking a Galileo Ground Segment Operations Engineer to provide support to the monitoring and controlling of the overall preparation of the ground segment and execution of the Galileo operations activities. Thorn SDS is an AUG registered business with a local bilingual English German support team in Darmstadt. We specialise in the supply of staff and services into the space and security sectors and are particularly interested in speaking to existing contractors at EUMETSAT that may be searching for a cost effective employment partner. The successful candidate will support the activities of the Galileo Constellation Operations Unit HSOOGC in the coordinating of the definition, deployment, validation, and operation of the Galileo Ground Control infrastructure, as required to meet the overall Galileo service needs. Typical tasks and responsibilities will include To monitor the operations and maintenance of the Galileo Control Segment in the GCCs and remote sites. Follow up the development, integration, verification and operational validation of the Galileo Ground Control Segment within the context of the overall Galileo system. Support the development and requirements of the Galileo Control Segment to improve operability. Support the procurement process for the Operations Service Provider for the Ground Control Segment maintenance and operational aspects and to monitor their implementation. Support and coordinate the interaction between the Operations and the Ground Control Segment providers, ensuring the coherency of the maintenance and operations concept for the Control Segment, at system, segment and element level. Participation on Galileo related Anomaly Review Boards, Change Control Boards and reviews panels, as required. All applicants require significant experience of senior engineering activities in ground control of similarly complex computer infrastructure deployed for space operation related activities along with a proven experience in a commercialindustrial environment. Experience related to developments in the Galileo project GIOVE, IOV would be considered advantageous. Candidates shall have a University degree or equivalent in Electric or Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering. This role is based at Oberpfaffenhoften in Germany, a generous relocation package is on offer if required. The successful candidate will be required to undergo Security Clearance.

Your tasks You will be integrated in our customer team providing consultancy support to spacecraft and ground segment operations. Your profile The applicants shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline, 35 years of job experience in a position similar to the offered job profile and have relevant knowledge and experience of tools like CCJava programming UNIXLINUX operating systems, related with satellite product visualization and assessment tools Scripting languages Python, Perl, TclTK, shell TCPIP protocols XML and related technologies XPATH, SVG Additional knowledge or experience in different fields of programming like ECSS and CCSDS standards requirement management tools like DOORS SCO and S2000 mission control system might be a plus. It is assumed that the applicant is fluent in English oral and written. Additional knowledge of French language might be a plus. Those are regular opportunities for experienced Satellite Engineers to work in the domain of satellite operations operations preparations on customer side EUMETSAT in Darmstadt. The key persons will be integrated in the MSG Spacecraft Operations Team. The tasks of the different roles depending on the qualification and background of the candidates are in the area of platform routine operations and operations preparation, spacecraft payload activities and systemengineering work.
