Average global broadband prices down just 1.6% to USD 73 a month - study

(Telecompaper) The average price of broadband worldwide has fallen just 1.64 per cent to USD 72.92 a month since the fourth quarter of 2017 even though speeds have accelerated by an average of 23 percent, according to the latest research from Cable.co.uk. The comparison of price data from 3,303 fixed-line broadband deals in 195 countries gathered from 15 August to 20 September revealed that prices fluctuated wildly from just USD 5.0 a month in Ukraine to USD 768.16 in Mauritania.

UK Chancellor commits GBP 200 million to rural fibre broadband

(Telecompaper) UK Chancellor Philip Hammond has used the Budget to confirm additional funding of over GBP 200 million to help full fibre broadband networks reach rural areas. In response, the National Farmers' Union (NFU) welcomed the news but stressed that it should not be a one-off investment and must be part of continued efforts to provide rural businesses with improved connectivity.

Comcast passes 30 mln cable customers in Q3 as broadband growth continues

(Telecompaper) Comcast passed the milestone of 30 million cable customers in the third quarter, after adding a net 288,000 new customers in the period. Strong growth in broadband helped offset continued losses in TV and fixed telephony subscribers, and rate increases and political advertising gave a further boost to revenue growth.

Global fixed broadband subscribers rise to just under 1 bln in Q2

(Telecompaper) The number of fixed broadband subscribers in the world rose 2.5 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, its highest growth in the past six quarters, according to the latest study from Point Topic, presented by Broadband Forum at the Broadband World Forum 2018. The number of subscribers reached 983 million at the end of June, with most new clients coming from less developed regions and countries. More developed and saturated markets with lower growth focused on improving offerings.
