For our activities in the European Space Agency, Serco Nederland BV is looking to employ an IT and Infrastructure Support Engineer dedicated to the Concurrent Design Facility CDF, managed by the Systems and Concurrent Engineering Section TECSYE ESTEC. The mandate of the Engineering Support to CDF Infrastructure Service is to provide the necessary workplace proximity support for the CDF, keeping abreast of evolving IT trends throughout and allowing the flexibility to establish costeffective services accordingly. Objectives Providing dedicated full time service for operating, maintaining and developing the facility infrastructure The main technologies supported by the current CDF IT infrastructure include Hyperv virtualization, Virtual storage appliances Citrix XenApp, Windows 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services, SharePoint Videoconferencing Web Additionally, the facility features a number of integrated IT and audio visual solutions and equipment. The facility is normally utilised to perform concurrent design activities supporting several engineering multidisciplinary teams and a variety of internal and external customers. Your objectives include the daily operations and the support of all user activities. You shall work in close collaboration with the users and management to gather user requirements and lessons learned, and to enhance the current systems CDF and services as appropriate. Specific Tasks Management and administration of the CDF informatics infrastructure resources, including HW, SW, multimedia, and communication devices user access, configuration, etc. Preparation and support of all CDF interdisciplinary activities Maintenance and upgrade of CDF HW and operating systems Design and implementation of test platforms to deliver technologies used for informationproviding and operations of the CDF Provision of security, backup and configuration management support to the local and remote facilities, located in other design centres Preparation and maintenance of databases and archives for exchanging data during design studies, retrieval of data from previous studies Provision of first line technical support for the application development platforms and tools used within the CDF Proactive contribution to the enhancement of the facility infrastructure, performance, and applications including identification, prototyping, procurement and installation of new HWand SW tools, multimedia and communication devices Support to other informatics tasks within TECSYE All technical tasks require documented by the production of user manuals, procedures, reports, etc. The implementation of tasks shall be carried out in liaison and close cooperation with the ESA Corporate Services, internal and external contractors, and suppliers. Maintenance, upgrading and procurement, representing a combination of regular eventdriven arrangements, are as follows Management of computer hardware maintenance gold technical support contracts on DellHP computers and servers Management of the existing audiovideo AV maintenance contract with the suppliers of the CDF Design Wall Barco and supporting AV infrastructure AVEX. Timely renewal of existing contracts, advice on correct maintenance level on all new procurements, obtaining advantageous prices and rates whenever possible. Maintain software maintenance contracts Qualifications and Requirements Applicants require a degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualification together with at least 5 years in a similar role and international environment. JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks The Infrastructure Engineering and Maintenance team under the GSI Division is responsible among other areas, for the Infrastructure matters for all operational areas, in relation with General Services Power, cooling, rooms configuration, access, building security matters Maintenance and Operations of the Technical Infrastructure Building Installation of equipment, cabling, installation standards OPS HW Inventory relation to financial inventory and goods receipt. The Key Person shall work in the Infrastructure Team supporting operations. The tasks of the Key Person will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Responsibilities Duties Tasks The Key Person shall work in the Technical and Scientific Support TSS Department as a member of the Infrastructure Team within the Generic Systems and Infrastructure GSI Division. HeShe will report to the Technical Infrastructure Manager. The tasks of the Key Person will typically include Support to the procurement, installation, testing, and maintenance of infrastructure equipment such as cables and ducts, distribution panels, network devices, servers, blade centres, storage devices and arrays, consoles, racks, furniture and related services Generate and maintain the hardware and cabling installation documentation, including layout diagrams, network diagrams, cabling and equipment inventory lists, on the basis of new procurements as well as upgrades or relocation of existing equipment Provide support to the ordering, storing and distribution of equipment and operational consumables Provide support to General Services Division GES for the investigation and troubleshooting of infrastructure equipment problems Provide support to and interface with GES for maintenance of the Control Centres infrastructure equipment including airconditioning equipment, the Uninterruptible Power Supplies UPS, the diesel generator, etc. Support the operation and maintenance of the infrastructure tools such as the iPatch cable management system and the Struxtureware DCIM system Qualifications The Key Person shall have an undergraduate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent working experience.
