KPN mobile market share drops further in Q1 as T-Mobile/Tele2 becomes number-2

(Telecompaper) Based on reported figures KPN lost a net 142,000 retail mobile customers in Q1, worse than the net decline of 102,000 in Q4 and 93,000 in Q1 2018. After several consecutive quarters of losses, KPN introduced new postpaid plans in February, in an attempt to turn the tide.

KPN rules out Huawei for 5G core network

(Telecompaper) Dutch operator KPN has ruled out Huawei as a supplier for its 5G core network, saying it will go with a "western" supplier in line with increasing security concerns for vital infrastructure. Huawei will still be a supplier for the radio network, as part of the operator's multi-vendor strategy.

KPN TV subscribers unchanged in 1Q 2019

KPN has announce results for Q1 2019. In the quarter, KPN added 16,000 IPTV customers to its base offsetting a reduction of 15,000 in the number of digital terrestrial (Digitenne) and analogue subscribers that it has.

(Telecompaper) Year-to-date, the TPSI European Telecoms is up 0.6 percent, lagging the EuroStoxx 50's gain of 5.7 percent. The heavy-weights Vodafone (-9.2%) and Deutsche Telekom (-4.1%) put a strain on the sector. The biggest winners include Turk Telekom (+28%) and Turkcell (+20%), as well as Liberty Global (+16%). Several German shares are performing particularly badly, such as United Internet (-10%), Telefonica Deutschland (-11%), Tele Columbus (-17%) and Drillisch (-18%). Iliad (-20%) is the weakest share in our index.

Brookfield mulling bid for KPN - report

(Telecompaper) Canada's Brookfield Asset Management is mulling an offer for Dutch carrier KPN, Bloomberg reported, citing sources. The asset manager is talking with Dutch pension funds PGGM and APG about partnering on the bid. The company had a market value of EUR 10.6 billion at market close on 30 January, before reports of the talks came up. The sources noted however that Brookfield has not approached KPN itself yet and that the process is at a very early stage. It may not even yield an offer, they added. The report pushed KPN shares sharply up on 31 January. The Dutch carrier declined to comment on the rumours.
