Unix and Storage Engineering Support 1413037 Job Description As a member of the Computer and Storage Management team, the key person shall provide support to the development and maintenance of storage systems with special focus on archive and retrieval services. The duties include the administration and operation of the central archive systems, administration of backup and Unix systems, maintenance of the external storage, inventory and support to the operation of the storage and computing services. The key person shall perform the following tasks monitoring of the facility services, computing, storage, backup and archive performance, investigation into HW and SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions ensuring that in case of HW or SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backuparchive procedures liaison with the external providers of HW and SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions analysis, planning and performance of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between computing and storage subsystems implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of associated technical documentation provision of standbyoncall support provision of support, as required, to critical operations. In the performance of these tasks, the key person shall apply the EUMETSAT configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. The tasks assigned to the key person will be agreed through dedicated workpackages with clear identification of activities and outputs expected. Required Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent minimum of 3 years experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed storage and computing systems. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. Fluency in English. In addition, for the accomplishment of the listed tasks, proven knowledge and experience in at least two of the following missions ground segment areas are mandatory Satellite Monitoring and Control Nearrealtime data processing Archive systems Nearreal time data dissemination. The Key person shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with a minimum of supervision. Due to the nature of the position, the Key person shall have good interpersonal skills and proactive attitude with strong ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment. Fluency in English. Good communication skills are essential for the fulfilment of the tasks requiring interaction. VMware and Storage Area Network System Engineering Support 1413036 Job Description The VMware and Storage Area Network System Engineer in the Information Technology Service Support Group will perform system administration, operation and maintenance for the corporate ICT environment. The foreseen detailed tasks, in order of relevance and to be shared with another team member, include as a minimum Operate and Maintain the VMware Infrastructure based on HP Blade Hardware and ESX vSphere OS. Install, configure and administer VMware servers and clusters infrastructure. Identify, diagnose and debug problems related to the VMware system, as well as assess, review and validate components, upgrades and patches. Operate and Maintain the Storage Area Network Infrastructure based on HP Storages EVA and NetApp. Configure and administrate the Storage Area Network. Identify, diagnose and debug problems related to the Storage Area Network as well as assess, review and validate components upgrades. Monitor the storage performance, usage and allocated storage space upon request. Contribute to the Operation of the Backup System based on Symantec Netbackup and Veeam Backup. Ensure successful completion of backup jobs. Perform regular data and systems restore tests. Restore data and systems upon request. Maintain the tape pools. Coordinate and ensure that tapes are sent to an outside facility. Provide 2nd level user and technical support. In the performance of these tasks, the key person shall apply the relevant system engineering standards, as well as procedures for quality management configuration and change control system operations and maintenance. Required Skills and Experience University degree in Information Technology or comparable discipline or equivalent professional experience together with proven 5 years of experience as VMware and Storage Area Network System Engineer in a demanding and heterogeneous computing environment. Extensive knowledge and experience in operation and maintenance of a VMware infrastructure running on VMware vSphere Knowledge and experience in operating, maintaining and monitoring of Storage systems, preferable HP EVA 60006400 and NetApp Knowledge and experience in operation and maintenance of a backup infrastructure, preferable running on Symantec Netbackup 7.x. Handson experience in installing, configuring and tuning of SAN fabrics Experience in a structured, ISO 9000 certified project and service environment, Knowledge of ITIL and handson experience in change and configuration management. Fluency in English. Desirable Skills and Experience VMware and HPNetApp Storage certifications are considered an asset. Thorn SDS are seeking a candidate to provide Ground Segment System Monitoring Engineering Consultancy Support within the Technical Scientific Support department. Working within the System Engineering and Projects Division, as a member of the systems upgrades team, the key candidate will be primarily covering the system engineering aspects of the design and development activities for the Meteosat Third Generation MTG Ground Segment, with emphasis on the evolutions of the MultiMission Elements for MTG. Thorn SDS is an AUG registered business with a local bilingual English German support team in Darmstadt. We specialise in the supply of staff and services into the space and security sectors and are particularly interested in speaking to existing contractors at EUMETSAT that may be searching for a cost effective employment partner.
