EUMETSAT is the European operational satellite agency for monitoring weather, climate and the environment, pulling together the resources of 30 Member States. We observe the atmosphere, ocean and land surfaces from Space using a system of satellites, 365 days a year, offering images and data to provide insights into weather situations, environmental hazards and climate change. Our work helps users worldwide to monitor changes in these to protect lives, lifestyles and properties. Developing the next generation of satellites, we look to shape our future. As part of our ongoing development, we are looking for a Computer Systems Architecture Engineer, based within the Computer and Storage Management team, to play a hands on role in the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This role will support the full lifecycle of EUMETSATs computer systems infrastructure. Your role will include designing architectural evolutions and managing upgrade activities of the computer systems infrastructure, either conducted inhouse or through commercial contracts. You will analyse, plan and manage the performance of hardware and software upgrades. Alongside this, you will ensure continuity of service to our Operations team in line with the established service level agreements. As one of our Systems Administrators you will liaise with external providers to manage hardware and software maintenance. You will oversee procurement activities for commercial third party support and implement anomaly processing and configuration control. You will deputise for your Team Leader, when appropriate. Alongside a university degree in Computer Science or equivalent you will be able to demonstrate experience in maintaining large scale computer systems in operational, highavailability and time critical environments. You will have an indepth knowledge with handson experience in the administration, installation and configuration of a wide range of Operating Systems, including virtual systems. You will be integral to bringing new ideas to support the team in the continued improvement and development of the computer system infrastructure.
