You will join a team that supports the DSM services related to Mission Data Systems MDS, which include Mission Control System, Mission Planning System, Operational Simulators, Service Provision Data Centre and Advanced Software Applications. For our customer, ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced Data Systems Management Software Engineer to support the technical management and operation of their data systems used for the operations of Earth Observation space missions. Responsibilities As a Mission Data Systems Software Engineer your responsibilities will be related to the technical management of the mission data systems used for spacecraft operations, which include Mission Control Systems MCS, Mission Planning Systems, Operational Simulators, Service Provision Data Centre system and advanced software applications. You may also be assigned responsibility and perform activities for additional projects and activities within the scope of overall Mission Data Systems services. The initial area of responsibility is for the following mission systems and activities Aeolus MCS S2K based BIOMASS MCS S2K based FLEX MCS S2K based Migration of EO missions to the new EGOSCC software infrastructure and preparation of future EO EGOSCC mission systems Support to the division RD activities Support may as well be extended to also cover other missions hence providing a prospect of long term continuity. Knowledge of both EGSCCbased and S2Kbased MCS systems will be needed. SPECIFIC TASKS The Configuration Management Engineer CME CME. interfaces projects and programmes of the Navigation Directorate for all aspects of Configuration CM and information management. The CMECME provides the expertise of NAVs digital information systems and intermediates between those and their internal and external users as part of the services rendered by the Configuration and Data Management unit. Besides the core tasks in CM, the tasks entail also the responsibility for the continuous oversight for the Navigation Directorates NAV information and records flow and supports actively the Directorates digitalisation activity as part of ESAs Digital Agenda. This includes control over the Directorates NAV repositories, tools and information related processes as well as external support services. The direct interface to the Directorates users and steering effectively related administration activities is essential to the task. The CME drives or takes actively part in documenting and reviewing existing and projected new processes related to the use of digital system configuration and documentation systems and other relevant IT tools. It includes the following regular duties in particular A. Product Configuration support Analyse and contribute to the specification of relevant processes for Segment and System CI identification, verification and control in support of NAV engineering activities, Support implementation and maintain programmatic, contractual and technical Baselines, Contribute to the generation of product documents such as Product Tree, CIDL, ABCL, CSAR and CSR Configuration Status Report, Followup and document product configuration evolutions from ascontracted, asdesigned, asdeveloped, as delivered, asdeployed, asinstalled to asoperated, Perform configuration audits, inspections and CI identification, Configure, operate, report from and improve CM databases, B. Identify information types and records and adequate processes for handling them. Liaise with corporate IT functions for the operation of NAV rele. Proactive generation and review of document templates, information structures, metadata, system functions, procedures and processes related to the systems in use by end users and the Navigation Documentation and Configuration team. Organization of the Navigation documentation office logistics including, but not limited to procedures, media and ledgers. Support to the Directorate Information and Records Officer DIRO in discharging relevant functions such as the implementation of the Documents and Record Schedule, as well as ESAs governance on data, records, archives and data protection. The CME reports to the Head of the Configuration and Data Management unit. The above tasks must be implemented in line with applicable Directorates Engineering and CM processes, ESA standards and the Directorate ISO certified QMS in close collaboration with relevant Configuration Management functions. The work can entail handling unclassified and classified material. REQUIREMENTS Master in Engineering or equivalent university degree from a recognised Institution of secondary studies. At least 4 years of relevant experience in Configuration Management. High level of autonomy and proactiveness. Excellent communication skills and professional maturity that is required to carry out complex tasks and a high level of responsibility. Very good working knowledge of spoken and written English. Eligibility for national personal security clearance relevant to ESA NAV programmes. Availability for occasional duty travel. Office productivity PC desktop, laptops, mainly in a MS Windows based application environment such as Office 365, in particular good knowledge in MS Excel. Expertise in applying and configuring at least one PLM, asset management or CM process relevant tool such as Windchill, Jira, SAP, Eclipse, Hardcat, WAND, ClearCaseClearQuest.
