Vitrociset Belgium is looking for a candidate with the profuile described below to deploy in ESOC in the domain of Spacecraft Operations Engineering. The engineer will be required to support spacecraft operations as a member of a Flight Control Team. TASKS The main tasks of a Spacecraft Operations Engineer are as follows Mission preparation, LEOP and commissioning phases Review mission documentation and define spacecraft operations concept, based on the missions objectives. Follow the development of the spacecraft and interface with project group and industry for technical matters and review of spacecraft design, interfaces to the ground segment and operations documentation. Review of the existing infrastructure and mission systems to define system and subsystem requirements for the mission. Support the definition, preparation and execution of ground segment validation tests. of the procedures for nominal and contingency cases. Support the preparation of additional operational products such as Flight Operations Plan, Operations Reports and Database. Support the preparation and execution of the System Validation Tests SVT. Support the preparation and execution of the simulations campaigns. Support the preparation and execution of the operations including prelaunch, LEOP and commissioning phases. Identify, record, and support the investigation and progression of spacecraft and groundbased anomalies during the SVTs, simulations campaign and LEOP. Mission routine phase Support the planning and execution of spacecraft routine operations, both online and offline. Support the execution of routine and contingency operations as required. Support the planning and execution of special operations. Support the analysis of spacecraft and ground segment performance. Perform systems and payload monitoring and long term trend evaluations. Support anomaly investigations, tracking followup. Support the regular generation of operations reports. Support the maintenance of procedures to take into account spacecraft failures, reconfigurations or new requirements. Provide support for the oncall service. Interface with other internal and external teams. PROFILE Academic requirements a University or similar degree in engineering, physics or similar discipline. Qualifications Good knowledge of spacecraft subsystems. Familiarity with operational environment. Ability to understand complex systems and to derive operational procedures Proactive and confident personality with good persuasive skills. Able to work in an interdisciplinary team. Ground Operations Engineers are responsible for providing the ops engineering required for their missions during preparation and execution phase. During the routine phase they are the first level of escalation above ECC and Scheduling Office. TASKS The tasks to be carried out by the Ground Operations Engineer are Participate in the mission specific validation of ground segment elements prior to critical operations. Participate, when nominated, as OM in the critical operations phases for that mission. Participate in the definition of mission specific ground station configuration in the ops preparation phase and after major modifications. Participate in the validation of station configuration and MC tailoring for remote operations. Define and give mission specific training to ECC staff during lifetime of mission. Participate in the certification of operators. Generate and maintain mission specific Ground Operations documentation e.g. GOP, training material during lifetime of mission. Monitor performance of ESTRACK services provided to customers and trigger corrective actions in case of degradations. Initiate or conduct investigations into anomalies affecting the Ground service to the mission. Participate in regular meeting with missions e.g. WORM, ICM or event driven meetings e.g. MRBs. In addition to these mission and service dedicated tasks, GOEs may be charged with specific facility or tools orientated duties. Latter are typically related to the definition, development and validation of new technical systems for ESTRACK operations. PROFILE Academic Requirements Bachelor or higher degree in a technical field related to ground stations operations. Specific Requirements Candidates should have several years of experience in operating ground station networks. As a preference they should have a thorough understanding of the technical systems related to ESTRACK and partner networks and be familiar with the ESOC working environment. Knowledge or experience in mission operations, i.e. the ESTRACK customer side, would be an asset. The proven ability of candidates to work independently in a technically complex and multinational environment is a prerequisite. Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support to Gaia within the Science and Robotic Exploration Directorate DSRE. Aurora currently has a team of more than 20 engineers and scientists at ESAC including 3 in the Computer Support Group CSG itself. Overview This work is to provide a number of specialised services to support ESA in Computer System Engineering at ESAC for the missions science operations centres. The SREO Computer Support Group CSG is providing computer support to all science operations centres and science ground segments located at ESAC, either in development or in operational phase. Under this work package, service shall be provided to support ESA in system administration activities for those computer systems used for science operations and research activities. These computers are general servers or workstations mainly based on Linux and Oracle Solaris, Macintoshes, Technical PCs and for Office Automation activities. The environment also includes Disk Storage infrastructure, Virtual infrastructure as well as GRID and Cloud computing infrastructures. Systems can be physical machines or provided through virtual infrastructure. These systems are connected to networks organized by functions operational, office and development, external services, GRID, Cloud and administration networks. Specific tasks would include installation, configuration, deployment, integration, monitoring, administration and maintenance of these computer systems, scientific and commercial software installation and administration, data backup and retrieval, interface with IT vendors for quotation, installation and maintenance agreements, users IT support, defining and operating computers operational procedures, hardware inventory tracking. It specifically excludes ESA corporate informatics infrastructure services office automation, network, terminal servers, Lotus Notes, LAN and communications, which are provided and subject to separate Service Level Agreements SLA.
