Mission Control Applications Engineer

For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Mission Control Applications Engineer. Tasks and Responsibilities The key person will provide prime support to the Mission Control Applications and Tools Team and will contribute to the requirements specification, design and development of Mission Control Applications for new Programmes PhaseBCD, including the setting up of the related maintenance arrangements and processes. The tasks of the key person will typically include Support to GSI MCA Activities Reference Architecture Participation to the definition and maintenance of the EUMETSAT TSS reference architecture for the Mission Control Applications part of the Ground Segment. Support to new Missions PhaseB activities Requirements engineering Participation to the functional analysis and decomposition of the Ground Segment requirements in the domain of Mission Control Applications Support the definition of Ground Segment requirements in the area of the Mission Control Applications. Participation to workshops and review meetings Interfacing with Operations to consolidate the operational concept in the Mission Control Applications requirements Support the identification of the verification method and initial test cases for the Mission Control Applications requirements Incorporate the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Control Application kernel products in the Ground Segment requirements Interfacing with the Mission Control Applications kernel product experts in the MCA Team to coordinate their contributions to the requirements definition. System Architectural design Support the generation of the architectural system level design of the Mission Control Applications as part of the Ground Segment Support the production of design models using Systems Engineering and CASE tools Support the definition and documentation of all interfaces IRDsICDs between the elements of the Mission Control Applications and other Ground Segment or external elements Incorporate the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Control Applications kernel products in the Ground Segment design. Support to New Mission PhaseCD activities Support to Applications implementation Support to the requirement and design engineering activities as part of the applications development Participation and contribution in requirements, design and implementation reviews both internal and with external contractors Follow the software development by external contractors of the Mission Control Applications. Support to IVV and Acceptance Participation in verification readiness reviews and verification testing campaigns both internal and with external contractors. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, the key person shall demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of specification, design, implementation, verification and maintenance of Mission Control Applications. The key person shall have skills and experience in the following mandatory areas Domain Skills Experience minimum 3 years in the definition of Ground Segment system level requirements and production of system architectural design artefacts in the domain of the Mission Control Applications of a Ground Segment Experience minimum 3 years in the definition of software requirements and architectural design for Mission Control Systems Experience minimum 3 years in the development of Satellite Mission Control Systems for particular missions based on MICONYS software suite from ESAESOC. In particular experience in the telemetry and commanding chains and in the archive component is considered mandatory Knowledge and understanding with actual working experience of space related standards ECSS and CCSDS concerning spacetoground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Mission Control Systems such as ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard PUS, CCSDS Space Packet Protocol SPP and CCSDS Space Link Extension Protocol SLE. Software Development, Verification Maintenance Skills Experience minimum 3 years in the full cycle of development and maintenance of Mission Control Applications following formal software engineering processes. This includes user and system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design, implementation, corrective and evolutivemaintenance activities Experience minimum 3 years in IVV integration, verification and validation activities for Mission Control Applications following formal engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, system and subsystem integration, generation of test plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports and anomaly tracking. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language. DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the Control Systems and Sensors Section. The Sections main responsibilities are technical support to projects and technology research and development for satellite attitude control systems. The duties of this post are providing AOCS Attitude and Orbit Control System engineering expertise to satellite projects, and managing AOCS systems and hardware development contracts. The main tasks of this post are providing AOCS engineering expertise to satellite projects involving requirement analysis and tradeoffs, performance and budget analyses, writing and assessment of AOCS specifications subsystem and units and interfaces, participating in the evaluation of industrial proposals, being an engineering focal point for the AOCS subsystem and unit procurement reviewing, evaluating and checking industrial contractors AOCS designs, detailed analysis, simulations and tests identifying design deficiencies and problem areas and assisting in their resolution. These activities will be carried out during all phases of satellite procurement, from preliminary definition up to launch, with particular emphasis on project reviews conceiving, initiating and managing research and development contracts for AOCS subsystem and hardware sensorsactuators technology including control techniques, electronics and interfaces, onboard control software, etc.. This task involves preparing specifications and work statements, as well as monitoring and controlling technical and schedule performance specifying, implementing and verifying control laws using computeraided design tools. This activity also involves verifying the realtime embedded software used to implement the control laws, satellite dynamics and AOCS unit modeling participating in control hardware laboratory work, which also involves preparing and using inhouse test facilities for the evaluation and prevalidation of new AOCS and sensoractuator designs contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in control and aerospace engineering, with at least five years experience in the development of satellite AOCS relevant to most of the tasks and duties described above. Candidates should have good general experience of satellite AOCS development throughout the different project phases, as well as a good knowledge of different system architectures and control concepts for different satellite missions, including fault tolerance FDIR aspects. Good experience of hardware development sensor and actuator technologies, together with knowledge in control design, analyses and simulation, is required. Experience of implementation and verification activities is an asset. Ideally, applicants should also have relevant management and organisational skills for running AOCS technology contracts. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, they should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Our client, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. They are seeking consultancy support for software development and maintenance of mission control components and applications designed with an objectoriented approach and client server architecture.
