Fleet Operations Mission Planner UK

The Fleet Operations UK Satellite Operations Center UKSOC Mission Planner is an engineer reporting to the Mission Planning Lead and is responsible for all aspects of spacecraft operations planning. A successful candidate is an engineer or technician with satellite subsystem and operations knowledge. The MP understands constraints to satellite and ground system operations, activity dependencies, systems limitations, and operational priorities. Tasks include analyzing and processing planning requests for feasibility, contact scheduling, and mission plan development and publishing. In addition, the Mission planner will process realtime change requests and modifications to the plan. The planner interfaces with other crew positions, resolves conflicts, and makes notifications per the Mission Planning process. Responsibilities Development, deconfliction, and publishing of the constellation mission plan Receive, process, screen and deploy spacecraft activity schedules Deconflict plan requests based on operational priorities and constraints Configure, operate, and troubleshoot planning system software applications Respond to unscheduled outages, applications software issuesfailures Perform onconsole mission planning activities in a rotating shift environment Required Skills and Experience The ideal candidate will have experience in Satellite and ground system operations Activity prioritization and planning Realtime schedule deconfliction Spacecraft activity feasibility analysis Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of all aspects of job and take initiative Excellent oral and written skills and communication briefing skills is essential. A minimum of 2 years of aerospace industry or equivalent experience required with 5 years preferred. Direct experience in resource or mission planning software application system configuration and operation, Launch and Early Obit Operations, sustaining Satellite Operations, and Flight Dynamics is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work to tight deadlines in high stress environments Multisatellite LEO constellation operations experience is a plus. Must have the right to work in the EEA European Economic Area

RAL Space was recently awarded 99m from the UK Government to develop the National Satellite Test Facility NSTF, which is now in the early construction phase. This stateoftheart facility will provide a world class set of colocated facilities for the assembly, integration and testing of space payloads and satellites. Once completed, the NSTF will have the capability to conduct Thermal, Vibration, Acoustic, Pyroshock, Electromagnetic Compatibility EMC and antennae testing for payloads up to 7 tonnes within clean room conditions. About The Role We now have a fantastic opportunity for a Facility Planner to join us. This new role will be instrumental in the successful operation of the new test facilities. The Facility will be underpinned by the planning function and planning will provide vital visibility options of the short, medium and long term plans. Schedules will be constructed around business as usual activities which will need to be updated and rescheduled on daily basis as a result of internal and external influences. The Facility Planner will be responsible for creating and maintaining a live facility master plan, through the extraction of information from multiple locations and stakeholders. In addition to building the master plans, they will also be responsible for identifying conflicts, acting as a catalyst in the resolution of clashes between competing requirements in the first instance and then presenting issues and options to senior staff as appropriate. The Facility Planner will be responsible for planning software selection and implementation as well as planning tool maintenance across the facility. As this is a new role within a new facility, the definition and implementation of the planning process will also fall to this role, giving the post holder real input in to this world class facility. About You Experience of working in space testing is desirable it is by no means essential, so if you have dedicated experience of planning and resource scheduling in a complex technical environment then we would really like to hear from you. We are also looking for someone who has Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence on a technical basis with a wide range of customers. Significant skills and experience in negotiation and the ability to present complex plans in an easy to understand format. Ability to extract key planning information from multiple sources whilst retaining the big picture and anticipating potential problems. Excellent attention to detail. You may either be educated to degree level or equivalent in a related field, or you may have a vocational qualification alongside relevant experience.
