As part of 2016 World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology, held in San Diego, CA from April 17–20, Honorable Dennis McGinn, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Energy, Installations, and Environment, will address biofuel and biorefining technology developers during "Overcoming Challenges to Biorefinery Scale Up" plenary. This general session, addressing what is needed to ensure successful scale up of commercial industrial biotechnology process, will also feature Jeff Lievense and Alan Propp.

BIO expresses support for tax extender legislation.

BIO welcomed legislation to extend critical tax incentives that are important to biotechnology companies. Legislation would make permanent the important Research & Development Tax Credit and expand eligibility for start-up companies, extend through 2016 the Second Generation Biofuel Producer Tax Credit and the Special Depreciation Allowance for Second Generation Biofuel Plant Property, and extend through 2019 the Controlled Foreign Corporation Look-Through Rule.

BIO Supports Legislation to follow up on JOBS Act.

Brian Hahn, GlycoMimetics, Inc. CFO and BIO Finance & Tax Committee Co-Chair, provided testimony on behalf of BIO before House Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises in support of Fostering Innovation Act, which would extend JOBS Act's SOX Section 404(b) exemption. Hahn also provided support for SEC Small Business Advocate Act and Small Business Capital Formation Enhancement Act, which would enhance role of emerging companies in SEC's policymaking process.

BIO supports Fostering Innovation Act.

BIO applauds Reps. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Michael Fitzpatrick (R-PA) for introducing the Fostering Innovation Act. This bill would reduce compliance costs for growing businesses that benefited from the JOBS Act, which provides Emerging Growth Companies with 5-year exemption from Section 404(b) of Sarbanes-Oxley. Fostering Innovation Act would extend exemption for additional 5 years for former EGCs that maintain public float below $700 million and average annual revenues below $50 million.
