Job description For our customer, ESA in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced EGOSCC Integration and Validation Support Engineer. Your responsibilities will be related to the setup and management of the system level integration and validation activities of the EGOSCC based applications, including Ground Data Systems Applications. EGOSCC Applications are going to be developed and integrated during the EGSCC development project itself, thus the EGOSCC you and your Team will cover a progressively increasing scope, starting from the EGSCC Integration Releases up to complete EGOSCC Applications. Responsibilities Typical activities to be undertaken are Contribute to the definition of the System Development Environment SDE requirementsprocesses related to the build, integration, installation and deployment of EGOSCC applications Collection of technical requirements with SDE service providers for the setup of the EGOSCC integration and validation environment Definition, setup and management of the EGOSCC build, integration and validation environment Definition and management of the EGOSCC reference configurations and tailoring data Definition and management of system level integration and validation test scenarios Definition and management of automated integration processes covering build, installation, deployment of EGOSCC applications Development of custom adapters and test doubles supporting the progressive integration and validation of EGSCC Integration Releases and associated EGOSCC product releases Progressive definition, setup and execution of system level validation scenarios of EGSCC Integration Releases and associated EGOSCC product releases Troubleshooting of problems identified in the course of the integration and validation activities Areas related to the Ground Data Systems Applications EGSCC Integration Releases forming the basis for EGOSCC applications EGOSCC Applications MICONYSCC core, MICONYSCC full, TEVALISCC, GSMCCC The following deliverables are required Turnkey installations of EGSCC Integration Releases for integration and validation purposes Turnkey installations of EGOSCC Applications for integration and validation purposes Technical notes documenting the outputs of analysis related to EGOSCC Integration and Validation activities System level integration and validation test scenarios for EGOSCC Applications Software modules supporting the adaptation of EGOSCC Applications to the test environment Documentation of any identified software problem in the relevant SPR database Informal reports e.g. emails reporting the main outputs of the validation and troubleshooting activities Attendance of technical and coordination meetings at ESOC This is a fulltime position as a Terma employee for placement at ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany, starting on 1st January 2017. The successful candidate will join the Space Environment and Effects Sections that supports ESA and European space mission development with investigations of space environments and their effects on space systems. Tasks and Responsibilities Main activities of the section are Application of many different models and software packages to analyse the effects that space environments e.g. chargedparticle radiation, plasmas, micrometeoroids space debris, atomic oxygen, geomagnetism may have on ESA missions. Development, adaptation, use and interpretation of the various models and tools and software development of associated graphical and other utilities, including WWW applications. Inorbit measurements of environmental parameters energetic particles, microparticles, plasmas are used to investigate local spacecraft conditions and to develop models of these environments for use in future mission planning. Tasks will contribute to the analysis of some of these data, derive relevant parameters to compare with existing models for validation, and ultimately lead to improvement of the models. Tasks will also involve contributions to the design, development, testing and calibration of the equipment for inorbit measurements. Natural energetic particles in space interact with components, detectors, astronauts, etc. causing a variety of problems. The GEANT4 radiation transport toolkit is used for specific space problems, including dose, SEE, and interactions of solar and galactic particles with detectors, etc. Microparticle environments are analysed with ESABASE2Debris. Spacecraft plasma interactions are analysed with SPIS, as well as heritage tools. Atmospheric environments are studied with the Mars climate databases and circulation models GCM, including the European Martian Climate Database and GCM. Spenvis is used as a generalpurpose resource for space environments and effects analyses. Contribute to development of space weather systems, including system definition and reviews, model development, testing of developed methods and establishment services. Contributions are also expected to the definition of required space weather hardware e.g. instrumentation and software developments, and subsequently assisting in the monitoring of industrial contracts. Contributions to the preparation of ECSS engineering standards shall be made ECSSE1004, ECSSE1012, ECSSE20, etc.. The tasks will include Support the section with maintenance of computational infrastructure for providing space environments and effects analysis support including web site upgrade and updating, software testing, software implementation and maintenance. Reviews of documents in this domain and in areas where environmental effects may have an impact shall be undertaken. Support the activities of technology research and development contracts regarding the above areas, including direct interfaces with the contractors, participate in progress meetings and reviews, as requested, and provide appropriate feedback on the progress and discussions. Support the projects interfacing may include communication with the project contractor companies or partner organizations, participation in progress meetings and reviews, as requested by project work, and provision of appropriate feedback on the achieved progress and discussions. Qualification and Experience The applicants should have A Master Degree or equivalent qualification in Physics or a related discipline with good computing ability, or equivalent experience. Specific knowledge of the interactions of the plasma environment in space with spacecraft, along with the computational methods used to evaluate the interactions. Experience with programming in Java and C under Unix is required. Familiarity with the SPIS spacecraft plasma interaction system would be an advantage. Very good verbal and written communication skills are required. In addition to the competence the following attributes would be highly desirable Experience with analyses of other aspects of the space environment and interactions with spacecraft that fall under the section area of operation plasmas, surface and internal electrostatic charging planetary atmospheres, charged dust and contamination Physics simulation techniques such as particleincell plasma simulation Design, development and operation of instrumentation for measuring the space environment, e.g. plasma monitors, magnetometers, and the associated data exploitation Experience with modern programming languages and IT environments.
