You will join the System Studies Advanced Projects department TSPEF61, managing several design contracts simultaneously for a duration of 6 months to 1 and a half years. Each study is carried out with a team of 3 to 5 people. Depending on your experience, you will be responsible for one or two studies.Typically, a preproject study involves the following activities Starting from preliminary specifications of the mission, definition of instrument concepts to meet needs. For each concept, sizing and making a first order definition of the different subassemblies type of optical combination, choice of detectors, mechanical and electrical architecture, establishing performance reviews MTF, SB report, etc., Comparing different concepts and choosing a concept, integrating feasibility, performance and development criteria duration, risk, cost, Interfacing with the customer and if necessary with the science team on the specifications of the mission, More detailed studies and analysis on the critical points of a concept optical combination, alignment tolerances, thermoelastic stability, electronic functions, etc. with the support of different specialists from the instrument division, Detailed performance reviews, and interface reviews dimensions, mass, power, data rates, implementation of deliverable performance models if necessary, Production of a development plan and estimation of costs, definition of the development process, test plan, and test resources necessary, Writing of preliminary specifications for certain componentsequipment and consultation with suppliers, identification of European organisations who may intervene in the project according to their experience and knowhow, Writing of designstudy reports in French or in English, oral presentations in front of the customer, Response to calls for tender Proposals for modelling or RD activities, Publications, participation in conferences. This position will require occasional travel for business once a month in Europe, and, as such, you must be able to travel accordingly.As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some of the following skills and experience. A vacancy for an Instrument Systems and Performance Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Responsible for the analysis, design, development and test of Instrument and Payload systems, hardwaresoftware and components. Managing Instrument and Payload designdevelopment tasks or work package through to completion within the designated performance, schedule and cost requirements. Responsible for derivation of Instrument and Payload requirements from top level mission, system or payload specifications. Responsible for development and maintenance of Instrument and Payload performance models for both active synthetic aperture radars radar altimeters scatterometers and passive microwave instruments radiometers sounders. Establishing performance analysis to enable understanding and interpretation of overall system requirements and translation to Instrument and Payload performance parameters. Derivation of key performance parameters and apportionment for specification on procured equipments and subassemblies. Support to Instrument and Payload integration, test and verification in respect of key instrument performance parameters. Provide support to analysis of instrument test data. Preparation and delivery of technical presentations to customers. Limited technical management responsibilities including preparing engineering documents, performing analyses, generating verification and justification files, delegating to and supporting other members of the department. Support to technical proposal preparation. Support to peer review of studies, projects and proposals. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree or MSc in Physics, Electronics or related Engineering discipline. Relevant industrial experience in the satellite systems field, Satellite instruments payloads or Microwave sensors. Exposure to the domain of Microwave instruments. Experience of Flight Instrument Payload development life cycle. Degree projects relevant to space systems microwave equipment. Appreciation of performance analysis tools and methods. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work individually or as part of a team with some technical management. Recognised competency in RF andor digital systems design. Previous applicable experience working with ESA, Eumetsat or national customers. Technical understanding within the product field and previous experience of delivering equivalent or similar products. Analytical skills to support optimization of science instrument design and performance. To apply click here
