For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for an OnGround Instrument Data Processing Engineer Tasks and Responsibilities The activities for the selected keyperson will be related to onground instrument data processing chains, from data received from the satellites to generation of level 1 and level 2 products via dedicated onground data processors and their dissemination to endusers. The key person will provide support in the area of onground instrument data processing engineering. Typical activities to be undertaken by the key person are Following up the definition and development of the onground instrument data processing specifications e.g. algorithms and product formats Following up the development of the onground instrument data processing systems, test tools and test data Following up the verification, integration and acceptance of the onground instrument data processing elements Supporting the validation of data processing algorithms and products Participating in reviews, verification and testing of onground instrument data processors against appropriate versions of requirements, specifications and reference processors Supporting System engineering activities in collaboration with EPSG System and Ground segment teams Supporting interactions with space segment teams and analysis of instrumentrelated documentation as far as relevant for data processing Participate in formal reviews and technical meetings at system and ground segment level when relevant for instrument data processing elements Provide input for support preparation of documentation for system and ground segment level reviews in relevant areas. Most activities will involve interactions with the ground segment team at EUMETSAT, and also, as relevant for the work, with engineers at partner agencies. Requirements Essentials The keyperson shall have the following experience and background University degree in the domain of engineering, science, or equivalent At least 3 years of experience in engineering of onground data processing elements for spaceborne observing imaging andor sounding systems. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the keyperson must be able to work effectively in this language. The keyperson shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan hisher work and cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. Heshe shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills verbal and written are important. Heshe shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. Desirables The following experience would be an additional asset Experience in verifying onground instrument data processing systems Experience in development of test data sets and processor prototypes Knowledge of relevant spaceborne observation instruments EPSSG satellites will embark sounders and imagers from the ultraviolet to the microwave range, a scatterometer and a radiooccultation instrument Experience in specification of operational products for earth observation missions. The MTG system is conceived to continue and significantly enhance the service offered to the EUMETSAT users via the existing GEO systems. The MTG systems space segment is planned to comprise three satellites positioned in geostationary orbit, two MTGI satellites and one MTGS satellite. The Procurement Support Engineer will be integrated into the MTG Ground Segment Data Processing Team. The overarching tasks will be to support the procurement activities for the MTG L0, L1 and L2 data processing facilities, primarily by developing and consolidating the knowledge needed to acquire the mission data processing functionality and by supporting the technical interface to industrial consortia specifically for scientific related aspects. Responsibilities As Procurement Support Engineer for the MTG Instrument Data Operational Processors, you will support the development, verification validation, onsite delivery, acceptance and warranty of the data processing systems, mainly for scientific aspects of the product processors. In addition, support for ground segment integration and system validation activities may be required. In particular the tasks will include Help procure the processing functionality for L1 and L2 processors of the Sounder instruments IRS and UVN and, to a lesser extend the Imager FCI and LI, throughout the complete procurement lifecycle Follow up the implementations of operational processors support and monitor contractors, organise and participate to progress meetings, formal reviews, technical and interface definition workshops Acquire detailed knowledge on L1 instrument processors algorithms for the Sounder instruments IRS and UVN related to radiometric and spectral calibration, and ensure their correct implementation in the operational software Acquire detailed knowledge on L2 product processors algorithms for the Sounder instruments IRS and UVN related to computation of atmospheric profiling and atmospheric composition, and ensure their correct implementation in the operational software Ensure that a proper knowledge transfer from EUMETSAT to industry is properly implemented.
