Cotton yarn import prices have declined in yuan terms in China, whatever their rise in dollar terms. Allocation of additional cotton import quotas should however support domestic spinners. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing and Shaoxing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Import prices are also available for yarns from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Domestic and import yarn prices are compared. All data are available for download.

Cotton Prices on International and Domestic Markets (Weekly Report)

Cotton prices are supported by an expected rebound of Chinese demand on the international market after Beijing has suddenly released an additional quota of 800,000 metric tons on last Friday. Demand from Vietnam, Bangladesh and even India could further boost prices to higher levels whereas China's cotton futures are already rebounding. Wool prices have fallen for the seventh consecutive week in a row in Australia, as demand was weakened by the strength of the local dollar and the low quality level of fibers. China is increasingly importing wool from other origins than Australia, offering more diversified supplies in terms of origins and products, as reflected by our 5-year data below. Polyester Chain Prices: PX, PTA, MEG and Fiber Prices (Weekly Report)

Raw material costs of polyester fiber producers are weakening in the current period whatever the rebound of crude oil, naphtha, mixed xylene and paraxylene prices in the past two weeks. Downward textile producers are far from enthusiastic, in addition, although optimism is back in China's economy. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Asia, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono-ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices. Viscose fiber prices have stayed unchanged in the last seven days in China, also staying frozen in Pakistan which is increasingly dependent on its imports of Chinese VSF. China's viscose exports to Pakistan but also to Indonesia have surged since 2013, as reflected by our below available 5-year data.
