Cotton yarn import prices have been raised in dollar terms in China, however dropping in yuan terms, due to the rise of the Chinese currency. Domestic yarns are less competitive, with imports being therefore potentially boosted. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing and Shaoxing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Import prices are also available for yarns from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Polyester prices have stayed unchanged in the last seven days in China, although raw material costs have clearly dropped, therefore offering larger margins to fiber plants. Cotton yarn prices have been further raised in the past seven days in India, as a result of a new jump of cotton fiber prices. Margins are falling at spinning mills and downward textile and apparel producers are protesting. Our review of Indian yarn prices covers the domestic and export markets, including carded and combed cotton, poly-cotton, poly-viscose, 100% polyester and 100% viscose. Major yarn production centres are covered with Tirupur (Tamil Nadu), Bhiwandi (Maharashtra) and Ludhiana (Punjab). Yarn prices are compared with fiber prices offering latest trends of spinners' margins. Market fundamentals are available on a monthly basis, including production and exports.

Polyester Chain Prices: PX, PTA, MEG and Fiber Prices (Weekly Report)

MEG prices have begun heavily falling in Asia and could continue dropping in the coming weeks due to long-term structural trends. PTA prices are bottoming out by contrast, in line with a very strong demand from polyester producers in China and a fall of production levels due to a series of maintenance operations. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Asia, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono-ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices.
