Polyester Chain Prices: PX, PTA, MEG and Fiber Prices (Weekly Report)

PTA prices have remained very firm in the last week in Asia, over a new rise of crude oil and paraxylene prices and whatever the fall in demand from polyester producers ahead of lunar year holidays. MEG prices have slightly increased with the market confronted with surging ethylene prices, a sharp rise of chinese capacities and falling margins at glycol plants. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Asia, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono-ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices. Cotton yarn prices have been further raised in Pakistan and in India in the last seven days. Cotton fiber prices have slightly risen in India, however staying frozen in Pakistan. Polyester fiber and spun yarn prices have increased in Pakistan where textile production is recovering. Cotton Prices on International and Domestic Markets (Weekly Report)

The cotton market is now experiencing "the calm before the storm". Ongoing trade negotiations between Beijing and Washington could result in a sharp rebound in Chinese demand for US cotton, therefore boosting prices by early March. Global market fundamentals are also increasingly bullish, after the ICAC has lowered ending stocks and key cotton-to-use ratio. Demand is already strong from Pakistan whereas still very firm from Bangladesh.
