Polyester fiber prices were not far from bottoming out at the end of last week, before the start of national holidays in China. With crude oil prices now soaring and paraxylene surging, PTA prices have begun recovering. Polyester fiber processors could have to digest or pass a rise of more than 20% in their material costs since last June, if prices would eventually stabilize after holidays. The sharp rise of crude oil prices has supported paraxylene prices in the past week, along with a tight supply situation in the Far East. PTA producers in China are struggling with large inventories which could be rapidly digested after the current holiday week in China, allowing polyester fiber prices to stop falling and possibly bottom out. Polyester fiber prices have slowly declined in the last seven days in China, with prices far from returning back to the July levels before their sudden and spectacular surge of August and early September. With cured oil prices now rising to new multiple year highs and polyester intermediate prices therefore finding some strong support, fiber prices could eventually stabilize, in line with an expected rebound of textile production in China after next week's holidays.
