Moreover, we actively manage your professional development, training and career progression. For the location in Darmstadt Germany we are looking for a Image Quality Assessment Engineer at EUMETSAT. Tasks The Key person shall work as a member of the Image Quality Assessment Team of INRC Image Navigation, Registration and Calibration supporting the mediumterm and longterm monitoring, operation and further development of Level 1 data processing systems. The Key person shall support the quality assessment and validation of the Level 1 image products for current and future GEO missions but will also provide support to current and future LEO missions in this area. Moreover, heshe shall support the development and maintenance of monitoring software for Level 1 image quality assessment as well as support the software maintenance of the operational MSG Level 1 data processing systems. The tasks of the Key person will typically include Monitoring the mediumterm to longterm performance of Level 1 data processing systems, including the performance of their algorithms, and monitoring the quality of the generated Level 1 image products Developing and maintaining image quality assessment software, including the specification, verification and validation testing of software developments Supporting the further development of the Level 1 data processing systems, including the specification, verification and validation testing of system updates and related Level 1 products Supporting the investigation and correction of anomalies related to the performance of the MSGMTP Level 1 data processing systems Supporting the preparations for future GEO and LEO missions in the area of image quality assessment Attendance at technical meetings Participation in formal reviews. Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have Good theoretical knowledge of satellite imagery data processing algorithms for navigation, registration and calibration and the techniques used for assessing the geometric and radiometric quality of Level 1 image products A minimum of 3 years experience in the processing and analysis of data from imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft Significant experience of validating remote sensing products and complex remote sensing data processing systems. Experience of software engineering, in particular in algorithm software development, in a Unix environment using CC, and ideally also Python and MatlabIDL Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification. SW PROFESSIONAL IMAGE PROCESSING Within the unit Earth Observation were looking for a software professional to support us in applying image processing algorithms and tools from remote sensing imagery originating from medium and high resolution, multi and hyper spectral, satellite PROBAV, Landsat, Sentinels and airborne UAV datasets. These datasets are growing fast in size from terabyte into petabyte ranges. You will be responsible to analyze and implement raster image processing and image mining algorithms in the field of vegetation, agriculture and coastal monitoring. You will contribute to the development of geographic web based tools to enable efficient analysis of these datasets. You will execute mainly technical tasks, but will also be responsible to manage specific work packages within a project. You will play an active role in the generation of new business. You will actively expand your knowledge of image processing on the basis of literature and put this knowledge into practice by applying stateofthe art frameworks as Hadoop Map Reduce, Spark, GPU processing, noSQL databases, ... to optimize these algorithms. You will work in research projects as well as addedvalue service programs in an international environment with customers as ESA, the European Commission and leading international research groups on Earth Observation. Qualifications Master degree or PhD with a strong expertise in Computer Science. Experience in Linux is a must. Very good programming skills in Java and Python or R. Experience with C, IDL or Matlab is an asset. Knowledge of geographic information systems, Hadoop, data mining, private cloud middleware, parallel computation based on CPUs and GPUs, statistics or machine learning is an asset. Experience in earth sciences, geomatics, digital imagesignal processing, image pattern recognitionsegmentation will be positively considered. You should be openminded, solution oriented, manage several tasks at once and prioritize accordingly. You can work in a team of researchers and ITers on image processing and remote sensing techniques. You should be able to communicate orally and in writing effectively in English for reporting in project meetings with customers and contributing to publications in proceedings and journals and proposals on IT subjects in international context ESA, H2020.
