Main responsibilities Tasks and Responsibilities As a support to the GSI IME team, you should provide support to the Copernicus Sentinel3 operational support and maintenance of the Copernicus Sentinel3 infrastructure. The duties range from the installation, testing, maintenance and operational support of the missionspecific and MME infrastructure. This may include the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external service providers. In the performance of these tasks, you should apply the EUMETSAT configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. You are expected to support the writing and reviewing of the requirement specifications and change proposals, to support the preparation of procurements, to participate in technical inspections and reviews, to support the documentation of the ground segment infrastructure system design, to contribute to the writing of evaluation reports, review reports, test reports and overall status reports and to support the change management procedures related to Copernicus Sentinel3 and MME infrastructure. Your tasks will include Generate and maintain installation documentation, including layout diagrams, Infrastructure Interface Control Documents, cabling database, network diagrams using the Struxurware data center management and iPatch cabling management tools Contribute to the definition of the layouts in the operational rooms Perform the physical installation of infrastructure for the S3 equipment installation, such as cables, interface panels, network devices, consoles, racks and furniture. Support the evaluation of compatibility of Data protection solution proposed by the S3 programme with the existing SNI operational system Liaison with the external providers of SNI HW and SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions Maintain the S3 Requirements Specifications on Operational Infrastructure, covering the building infrastructure and SNI for Data protection aspects Participation in any necessary meetings and reviews Provision of support, as required, to critical operations during system commissioning operations Perform any task as directed by the GSI IME Manager. Ideal candidate Requirements Essentials In addition of having a university degree or equivalent working experience, you should have at least 5 years working experience in the field of building infrastructure and Data protection Knowledge and handson experience with the following is mandatory Server rooms layout design, with optimal occupation of space for racks and efficient usage of resources power and cooling Interrooms and interbuildings data connection techniques Racks installation, cable laying and equipment installation and testing Electrical power distribution infrastructure Technical Drawing software packages i.e. MS Visio Operation of backup and recovery solutions Development and maintenance of complex operational ground systems, preferably in the area of 247 operational remote sensing satellites Experience of ground segments which are designed and developed taking advantage by the reuse of existing generic infrastructure and functional elements System and Interfaces Engineering I AIT experience for the development of major upgrades new ground systems in a 247 operational environment Working experience with Struxureware DCIM tool and iPatch cable management tool. You should be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work without supervision within the team. Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking a Support for the Maintenance and Development of the Operational ASCAT Product Processing Facility. The ASCAT is an instrument flown on all METOP satellites, which allows measuring a fundamental geophysical parameter of the Earth surface, the Normalised Radar Cross Section NRCS, also known as sigma0 or normalised backscatter. The NRCS is further used by EUMETSAT partners to estimate winds over the ocean surface, soil moisture over land and sea ice surface characteristics. A followon instrument SCA will be flown also in the EPSSG satellites. The NRCS data is provided in the EPS Core Ground Segment at EUMETSAT by the ASCAT Level 1 PPF and constitutes what is known as the ASCAT Level 1 products. You shall provide software engineering support tasks for maintaining and further developing the ASCAT Level 1 PPF and products. Activities consist of software development, maintenance, integration testing and documentation. The operational code is written in C and its overall design, as well as its scientific algorithms, is based on a science prototype written for the most part in IDL, although some components are further prototyped in C for performance benchmarking needs. The operational code covers all processing steps from Level 0 up to and including Level 1B products. Responsibilities Typical activities to be undertaken are Familiarisation with the code and overall code inspection and analysis Takeover and actualisation of the essential software documentation, including online documentation Software development and implementation of algorithm and functional improvements This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in December 2016. You will be nominally based at EUMETSATs facilities in Darmstadt, Germany. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an university degree, in the domain of engineering, science, or other suitable qualification.
